Umberto Cesari Liano Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Igt Rubicone

Wanted to hate it but was far better than I anticipated. For a few years now this has been representative of all that was wrong with wine. This still lacks elegance and classic Italian character, but tastes more like a wine than previous vintages. I recently tried the 03, which was not at all the same as the 2011-2013. It does offer some structure and "deliciousness" brought about by the ultra modern style (make up), but there is SOME real wine in here.

Intriga Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Maipo Valley

Has everything one wants from a new world Cab. Good complexity showing vegetal and herbal notes alongside woody and dark fruit character. Has good acidity, a good finish and is far better than many other cabs in this price point. However, it does have a hell of a lot of torque and requires food and moderation.

Masi Campofiorin 2013, Rosso Verona

This is one of those go-to purchases for many, and as with many 'go-to' wines (as well as people, places and things for that matter), I cant understand it. Perhaps I caught a flawed bottle, or perhaps I was flawed when I tasted this? No sense of place, off-balance and a ripe-greenness (if that makes any sense). We thought it was a generic under 15$ northern or badly made southern Rhone when tasted blind. There seem to be many who enjoy this, and that is fine, but why not try something new?

Pas grand-chose à dire, le style plus léger, certains confite décent bit fruits.Procédé frais et modérément mûrs.

Geat rhone blend(50/50 syrah, grenache)...purity of fruit and elegance..great acitdity, great buy

La Vite Lucente 2014, Igt Toscana

Ultra-modern merlot blend from tuscany, loads of oak, dry tannin. Lacks purity of fruit, sense of place and individuality/character, perhaps too young, but it fails my personal test on too many levels to ever consider this as a buy. Not bad structurally, but its profile is run of the mill at best.

Schug Chardonnay Carneros 2015

Far more balance than i anticipated upon tasting. Oak is present, but it is not overly weighty or extracted. The ripe pineapple compliments the butter/toast and is balanced with a good acidity. Good stuff, worth seeking out.
