Quinta Do Convento Douro 2013, Douro
Portugal$18.75
Solid douro, lots of red berry fruit (pure), tannin are relaxed, elegant..one of the best douros ive had at this price point
Caliterra Tributo Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Valle De San Antonio, Valle De Leyda
Aconcagua Valley, Chile$17.00
Love this wine. Exudes slightly sweet asparagus and jalapeno rather than concentrated asparagus notes sometimes prevalent in SB from Chile. Good amount of citrus, a mix of juice and rind that makes for a great balance of fruit backed with a small dose of mineral/salinity. It comes together well, balance between fruits and vegetables blends nicely with acidity/bitterness/fruit.
13th Street Gamay Noir 2015, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Decent gamay from ontario. Some spice and red fruit, but not as energetic as Many of the 2015 Gamay's available at the SAQ around the Saami price. It Does HOWEVER Some offer additional weight and substance with a bit less acidity (For Those of You Who That enjoy in your gamay), and why not local talent support!
Clos Des Fous Subsollum Pinot Noir 2014
Chile$26.40
Good, just a bit more ripe and alcoholic than I like my pinot. Aim the fruit is pure and it HAS Some layers of spicy / vegetal / fruity complexity.
Guelbenzu Azul 2013
Spain$19.75
This is a solid blend spanish, bring a mix of dark and red / fresh and ripe fruit as well as woody and leafy aromas and flavors. Not 'vanillafied' decent structure and length, good value.
Espelt Saulo 2015, Empordà
Catalonia, Spain$14.65
Structured and ripe fruit, not over oaked, some tabacco and a decent finish. Great buy
Delas Crozes Hermitage Les Launes 2014, Crozes Hermitage
Rhône, France$24.95
Textbook Northern Rhone. Pepper, smoke, cured meat, dark fruit and oak balanced with good acidity and medium body. Lacking a bit of everything, a tad jumbled.
Selbach Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Halbtrocken M S R Riesling Kabinett 2015
Germany$19.75
Vibrant and mineral, but floral notes dominate. decent, but not my favorite profile for entry level German riesling
De Morgenzon Dmz Chenin Blanc 2016
South Africa$17.65
Solid Chenin from SA, good balance of tropical/melon/citrus/mineral on the attack...a hint of green (fruit peel)and very tense and youthful on the finish (shows just a touch of heat). Otherwise delicious, great value
A A Badenhorst The Drifter Cinsault 2016
Swartland, South Africa$18.00
At 13% alcohol, this offers a taste of south africa for under 20$ without the often overbearing oak and concentration. Loads of pure red fruit, smoky/herbal south African character is there and the wine is easy drinking and well balanced. Try slightly chilled, this is a winner
