Domaine Du Nozay Château Du Nozay 2014
Loire, France$41.25
Good wine, but very run of the mill for the price. The structure was not at par with other sancerre's, especially in this price range.
Ringbolt Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Margaret River
Western Australia, Australia$21.95
This wine delivers an aromatic profile that is powerful and seductive while not over the top. Loads of cracked peppercorn on a bed and slightly cooked dark fruit and minty/herbs. On the palate, it has good acidity to cut through the extraction and almost succeeds in bringing it all together from attack to mid palate (it is slightly jumbled), which would have allotted this a 90-91 pt score. New world Cabernet with acidity ripping through the spice/herb/fruit profile, great stuff.
álvaro Castro Reserve White 2014, Doc Dão
Dão, Portugal$22.75
Mineral, almost saline in character. White and slight tropical fruit. A tad heavy alcohol perception
Bachelder Chardonnay Mineralité 2012
Ontario, Canada$23.30
While oak tratment makes itself felt, it is integrated nicely it has the character of a quality burgundy. Good structure and minerality, as the name suggests.
Champagne Vincent Couche Brut Millésime 2004
Champagne, France$46.25
A style that i enjoy, but some may be put off. It is very oxidised (nut shells, some pastry) and the fruit takes a back seat. The bubbles are somewhat persistent, good overall. Will sit well with fans of the jura (like myself).
Tawse Spark Limestone Ridge Sparkling Riesling 2014, VQA Twenty Mile Bench
Ontario, Canada$20.95
Very sour. Flavors of green apple and concentrated lemon peel. It is not well balanced... there is some gas/chemical component that make it recognisable as riesling, and for those who are fans of sour fruit (as I am) this is serviceable, but many will find unapproachable. The bubbles come across as almost carbonated, though they are not...perhaps will come together with time?
Bolla Le Origini Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2009, Doc
Veneto, Italy$51.95
Far more subdued and classic than many others in this price range, this wine is quite evolved for an 09 amarone. Fig and prune (verging on spoiled) are present as is forest floor, tabacco and leather. First amaorne of this type that Iv'e tased. A refreshing change.
Boutari Grande Réserve Naoussa Xinomavro 2010
Greece$22.95
Elegant, rustic, balanced and showing perfect amount of maturity
