Masi Serego Alighieri Possessioni Rosso 2008, Veneto
Veneto, Italy$15.00
Medium weight, with reasonable balance. Worked well with lasagna, med long finish. Sept 2010.
Villa Maria Private Bin Pinot Noir 2009, Marlborough
New Zealand$19.95
Light ruby, med low viscosity, red fruit, berries, a bit of earthiness/mushroom, tobacco, smooth tannins, med length. Jan 2011.
Ardal Reserva 2004, Do Ribera Del Duero
Ribera Del Duero, Spain$21.95
Dark Ruby. There is not a lot of fruit on the nose, there is a lot of oak with cedar, toabacco and vegetal notes. On the palate we do get some plum and licorice. Fairly tannic and acidic and a bit hot. The finish is medium length leaving one mostly with somewhat bitter tannin and alcohol. Seems a bit disjointed to me. March 2011.
Thorn Clarke Shotfire Quartage 2007, Barossa, South Australia
Australia$21.95
Dark fruit, fairly strong nose, nice mid pallet. Seems fairly well balanced even with the loads of fruit. Just a tad short of delicious.
Domaine De L’idylle Roussette De Savoie 2006, Savoy
France$16.95
Feb 15,2011. Med gold, slight green on rim, clear, almost bright, low intensity nose, citrus-lemon, muted fruit and noticable bitter taste on pallette, med+ acid, short finish that continues the bitterness. Quite probably well past it's prime.
Château St Cosme Les Deux Albion Côtes Du Rhône 2008
Rhône, France$19.95
Medium ruby red. Above average intensity on the nose, with plum, blackcherry, smoke, pepper, and some some wood. This wine is dry with chewy/grippy tannins - comes across young - with medium acid and good weight. On the palate there is added leather and spice. With a med+ length this is pretty good. Feb 2011.
François Martenot Les Haut Bois Meursault 2007, Ac
Burgundy, France$33.60
Pale gold with an intense nose of citrus fruit, honey, butterscotch and a bit of floral. Some more wood on the mid-palate with good weight and very good length. Feb 2011.
Maison Kerlann Chablis 2008, Ac
Burgundy, France$0.00
Pale to med straw. Citrus, green apple, confection, some minerality. Dry, tart with above average acid. Seemed to have a hint of wood. Medium length with a bitterness on the finish. Didn't come across as very complex. Feb 2011.
Domaine Notre Dame Des Pallières Gigondas 2007, Ac
Rhône, France$23.95
A medium intense nose with lots of dark fruit, blackcherry and a bit of earth. Dry, with quite a bit of tannin but fairly fine. Fairly high acid, med+ weight. Powerful, very nice (coming close to delicious), needs a few years to be at peak. Bought a few to lay down. Feb 2011.
Steve Bird Big Barrel Pinot Noir 2008, Marlborough, South Island
New Zealand$26.95
A slightly darker ruby red. Red fruits, earth. Med intensity with a nice mouthfeel, smooth tannin and good balancing acidity. Good finish. Nice. Bought more to replace. Dec 2010
