Huff Estates South Bay Chardonnay 2007, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$23.75
For those fans of 'well-oaked' Chards. - this was a bit much for me. Quite acidic. Long finish. Nov 2010.
Bellaria Assunto Brunello Di Montalcino 2004, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$36.95
Garnet-mahogany (bricking), muted fruit, leather, barnyard, tabacco, plentiful tannins fairly well integrated, medium acid, average length finish. Okay but not that interesting on it's own. Jan 2011.
Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, Napa Valley
California, Usa$25.95
Deep ruby moving to garnet, intense nose, blackberry, earthy, forest floor, dried fruit, high tannins but soft, wood, big mouthfeel. Average length. Jan 2011.
Thorn Clarke Shotfire Quartage 2007, Barossa, South Australia
Australia$21.95
Dark fruit, fairly strong nose, nice mid pallet. Seems fairly well balanced even with the loads of fruit. Just a tad short of delicious.
Domaine Notre Dame Des Pallières Gigondas 2007, Ac
Rhône, France$23.95
A medium intense nose with lots of dark fruit, blackcherry and a bit of earth. Dry, with quite a bit of tannin but fairly fine. Fairly high acid, med+ weight. Powerful, very nice (coming close to delicious), needs a few years to be at peak. Bought a few to lay down. Feb 2011.
Thorn Clarke Terra Barossa Shiraz 2008, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Australia$16.95
Lots of of dark fruit with lower acid and light tannins. Did not seem hot even though it is listed at 15%. Medium finish.
Sept 2010.
Château Des Charmes Old Vines Riesling 2007, VQA Niagara On The Lake
Ontario, Canada$16.95
Nice fruit aromas, above average acidity and a bit of residual sugar seems nicely balanced. Med+ body, bit of bitterness (not unpleasant) on a decent finish. Tasted twice, Dec 2010.
Steve Bird Big Barrel Pinot Noir 2008, Marlborough, South Island
New Zealand$26.95
A slightly darker ruby red. Red fruits, earth. Med intensity with a nice mouthfeel, smooth tannin and good balancing acidity. Good finish. Nice. Bought more to replace. Dec 2010
Château St Cosme Les Deux Albion Côtes Du Rhône 2008
Rhône, France$19.95
Medium ruby red. Above average intensity on the nose, with plum, blackcherry, smoke, pepper, and some some wood. This wine is dry with chewy/grippy tannins - comes across young - with medium acid and good weight. On the palate there is added leather and spice. With a med+ length this is pretty good. Feb 2011.
François Martenot Les Haut Bois Meursault 2007, Ac
Burgundy, France$33.60
Pale gold with an intense nose of citrus fruit, honey, butterscotch and a bit of floral. Some more wood on the mid-palate with good weight and very good length. Feb 2011.
