Domaine Saint Pierre Vacqueyras 2005, Ac Bottle
Domaine Saint Pierre Vacqueyras 2005, Ac
Rhône, France
$24.95

Based on Mr Parker's notes, I expected a massive blockbuster, While ripe and pure, this wine is extremely well balanced - not in-your-face at all, It is a textbook South Rhone red, with nothing out of place, soft tannin and a long finish. A joy to taste. Drink now or in the next few years.

The Winery Of Good Hope Chenin Blanc 2009, Wo Stellenbosch

Floral nose, with lots of citrus and a bit of honeyon the palate. Oak is very subtle. Very decent finish. $12? A no-brainer for summer sipping at that price. Very nice indeed.

Roche De Bellene Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru 2008, Ac Bottle
Roche De Bellene Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru 2008, Ac
Burgundy, France
$29.95

Light-bodied, with lean cranberry/tart cherry flavours. This is tight and firm but finishes with very sour notes and high acidity. For me, a completely joyless wine at the present. maybe time will improve this but I wouldn't bet on it. Really disappointing given the glowing reviews. Tasted Sept 2013.

Campo Maccione 2008, Morellino Di Scansano Bottle
Campo Maccione 2008, Morellino Di Scansano
Tuscany, Italy
$13.95

Plenty of ripe red cherry fruit, with notes of dried fruit and fine acidity. In short, a real honest-to-goodness Sangiovese. No resorting to overripening the grapes or adding an oak sheen. Far more depth and structure than one would expect for such a modest price. Very fine value, worthy of multiple purchase. Tasted May 2012.

Fuzion Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2009, Mendoza Bottle
Fuzion Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2009, Mendoza
Argentina
$7.95

A splendid example of why I spend more than $10 on wine. This wine from Argentina was light on aroma and flavour, with nothing to distinguish it in any way from the oceans of other cheap vino on the market. Thin, with little varietal characther , and a finish that can be measure in tenths of a second. Suffice it to say I didn't particularly like this wine. Over-priced at under $8. All IMHO, of course.

Tsantali Rapsani 2006 Bottle
Tsantali Rapsani 2006
Greece
$12.95

I hate to admit it, but I think that this may be the first Greek wine I have bought since I visited Crete in 1988. This red was a very pleasant surprise. Ripe bright red fruits with notes of spice. Quite approachable but enough stucture to keep it from being flabby. Good complexity and a solid finish. A very good wine and a great value at $12.95. I'll be picking up a few more bottles for summer bbqs. I certainly won't overlook the wines of Greece any more!

Château De Gourgazaud Cuvée Mathilde 2008, Ac Minervois Bottle
Château De Gourgazaud Cuvée Mathilde 2008, Ac Minervois
Languedoc, France
$14.95

From the Minervois, this red is a blend of syrah and mourvedre. Slightyly tart blackberry fruit, backed up by plenty of herbs and spices and subtle notes of dried meat. Not particularly deep or complex, but true to its southern France origins and very satisfying. Purchased at a discounted $11.95 and represents a stellar value at that price. Tasted Nov 2011.
