Château Jeremie 2021, Ac Corbières
Languedoc, France$18.95
Superb southern French wine, in this case from Corbières. Full bodied, big ripe fruit, herbs and spices, all that you could want and far more for $19. Alas, sold out at Vintages now, but hoping that this wine comes back at a later date. Drink now or hold a few years. Tasted Oct 2025.
Famille Perrin Les Cornuds Vinsobres 2021, A.C.
Rhône, France$21.95
Fine Red here from Famille Perrin, in this case from Vinsobres. I feel like this is more Grenache-driven than the '20, with plenty of herb-infused red fruit and supple tannin. Impeccably made as usual and a joy to drink. Drinking very nicely now, but no rush. Tasted Oct 2025.
Domaine Chantepierre Lirac 2021, Ac
Rhône, France$16.95
I cannot remember a Lirac coming through Vintages at such a low price. Great value. Could use 12-18 months in bottle though delicious now. Tasted Feb 2025.
Cuvée Sabrine Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2022, Ac
Rhône, France$18.95
What is it now? The fifth vintage I have had this wine? Yet again, simply delicious CdR Villages. How can you go wrong at $19? Just a delight! Tasted Mar 2025 or so.
Domaine Font Sarade Les Terres Rouges 2022
Rhône, France$17.95
What a fine red this is, brimming with all the regional character that one could possibly want, 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 25% Carignan. Great rec by David and a steal at $18. Alas, it now seems to be sold out. Tasted Dec 2025.
Viña Real Crianza 2021, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$19.95
I waffled between 89 and 90pts, but in the end the length, complexity and sheer drinkability of the wine convinced me that it is a 90pt wine, The wood is there but so well integrated and the quality of the fruit is impeccable. Heck of a wine for $20. Drink now, or next year or the year after that. Tasted July 2025
Planeta Controdanza Noto Nero D'avola 2020, Doc Noto
Sicily, Italy$24.95
Dense and burly, with some chewy tannin, Red fruit, with some herbal notes and finishing a bit hot. Good wine but lacks a bit of charm. Maybe could use a bit more time? Tasted last night.
Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz 2021, Coonawarra
South Australia, Australia$18.95
Dense, full-bodied Shiraz with very ripe jammy fruit and a relatively soft structure. Not much regional or varietal character here, but it is still a rather tasty wine, if not particularly complex. Oak is a mere afterthought. For nearer term consumption, this is not designed for long ageing. Easy purchase for only $19. Tasted April 2025.
Perez Cruz Piedra Seca Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, Sustainable, Do Maipo Andes, Valle Del Maipo
Maipo Valley, Chile$22.95
I like the herbal-inflected bright fruit of this Maipo Cab from Perez Cruz. There is a nice firm but unobtrusive structure here that makes this wine fine to drink now or to hold a few years. However, overlaying all this is a notable streak of oak that I find a little strong for my tastes. Others may enjoy this more than I. Tasted Sep 2025.
Quinta Do Vallado Vinho Tinto Douro Doc 2022
Douro, Portugal$19.95
Quite ripe, though the alcohol level is not out of control. Darkly fruited, with little overt oak influence. Very good example of modern Douro. Drink now and over the next few years, with just a bit of a chill (say 30mins in the old fridgy). Tasked July 2025.
