Budureasca Clasic Alb De Budureasca 2019, Doc Cmd Dealu Mare
Romania, World$13.75
Fantastic value for 13.75. Crisp and refreshing but with a voluptuous middle, with fleshy, peach flavours to balance. Really, kind of an all-in-one wine with something to please everyone. Just bought three more.
Arca Nova Vinho Verde 2019, Doc
Vinho Verde, Portugal$13.95
Quite a bit spritzier than usual for a non-carbonated vino verde. At 13.95, a good cheap thrill. Kind of like sucking on a lemon, but in a good way. Perked me up after a hard day at work. If only I had some grilled sea bass, salad, and boiled potatoes to go with it…
Château Les Sablonnets 2019, A.C.
Bordeaux, France$12.95
Were these guys drinking the same wine? And John is usually the one with the low score.
As Bordeaux is not my usual haunt, I may not be qualified to judge, but I also really liked this wine. Dense but has a backbone and character.
Creekside Cabernet Merlot 2019, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$15.95
Nicely made wine and a good value. Shows a slight bell pepper note that I find characteristic of Ontario reds.
Rocca Delle Macie Chianti Classico Docg 2020
Tuscany, Italy$17.95
Lighter than I remember. Pleasant.
Creekside Rosé 2021, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$15.95
Pleasant enough but flavour is strangely AWOL. This hardly makes an impression at all.
Juan Gil Silver Label Monastrell 2019, Vegan, Dop Jumilla
Murcia, Spain$17.75
I am in the middle on this one: will give it 88 points. The acid core says this from being confection, but I can’t get to 90 points.
Château La Croix De Queynac 2020, Ac Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux, France$18.95
Very enjoyable. Has a distinctive graphite core that I associate with Bordeaux but still finishes smoothly. Decent value.
Azul Portugal Vinho Tinto 2007, Doc Bairrada
Bairrada, Portugal$12.95
The 2010 version of this is currently available in Manitoba. Very smooth and polished on the surface, but with the beguiling mustiness of baga in the background. Very good value.
Marqués De Caceres Rioja Rosé 2013
Rioja, Spain$13.95
My favourite rose so far this year. Very dry and zesty, but substantial. Eminently drinkable.
