Pondview Bella Terra Cabernet Franc 2009, VQA Four Mile Creek, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$28.00
Get down to the winery and taste the 2010 vintage release... it's hands down the best single varietal Cab/ Franc I have every had. Packed with terroir driven fruit and earthiness, it's smoky and delicious. It has incredible concentration of fruit & remains perfectly balanced. Impressive and complex.
Château Gachon Cuvée Les Petits Rangas 2008, Ac Montagne St émilion
Bordeaux, France$17.95
Thin and uninspiring - very bland & almost watery. Not recommended.
Vignerons De Gigondas La Font Des Grières Gigondas 2007, Ac
Rhône, France$19.95
Delicious blueberry fruit – fresh not jammy, with mineral notes, extremely smooth on the pallet and impeccable structure. I wish I bought more last year…grrrr
Louis Bouillot Perle D'aurore Brut Rosé Crémant De Bourgogne, Traditional Method, Ac, Burgundy, France
Burgundy, France$25.95
Pours a nice creamy mousse, with a pretty pink-copper colour. It’s stylish, with delicate raspberry and strawberry flavors…there’s a hint of sweetness on the mid palate to add pleasure but finishes dry and crisp.
Domaine De La Janasse Côtes Du Rhône Blanc 2014, Ac
Rhône, France$18.25
Nice full bodied feel with white flowery peachy flavours. Really well structured! Great stuff!
Poderi Di Luigi Einaudi Dolcetto Di Dogliani 2013, Doc
Piedmont, Italy$19.95
Wow, this is super delicious and pure. The mouth feel is gorgeous - silky and round, it really coats your palate. Expect roses, violets and fresh sweet and sour cherries on the finish. This is absolutely the best Dolcetto I've ever had.
Henry Of Pelham Reserve Baco Noir 2009, VQA Ontario
Ontario, Canada$24.95
Not sure if there's a better Baco noir made on the planet. It rustic but smooth showing sweet and sour cherries, smoky plum, leather, mud, wet leaves -medium to full bodied silky tannins - its beyond well made - it's perfectly balanced & structured. Oh Yaaaaaaaaaaaaa the right stuff!
Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Sonoma County
California, Usa$39.95
I thought the 2009 showed better, the 2010 is (to me) a bit astringent...the quality of the fruit just isn't the same as 2009. Despite my negativity this is still (for the $$) a well put together Cali Cab. However for almost $15 less, The Raymond steals the show for the 2010 vintage. ...Just my two cents.
Amalaya Valle Calchaqui 2008
Salta, Argentina$16.20
The name Amalaya, or “hope for a miracle”, is rooted in the desire of the native Calchaqui Indians to keep the gods of nature content. - with the Hess Family behind this venture you know it's something special.
D'angelo Aglianico Del Vulture 2009, Doc Basilicata
Italy$17.95
first note - decant for an hour...okay now classic notes appear... spicy cherry, barn yard, earth, tobacco, charcoal, wet wood and vanilla must... and a hint of citrus (orange peel?) . Palate is smooth but dry...offers loads of pipe tobacco. A tad thin, but that's normal for this varietal. Classic and respectable.
