Perrin & Fils Les Christins Vacqueyras 2009, Ac
Rhône, France$23.95
I like the subtle taste of a Vacqueyras compared to other Rhone wines at the same price. This one delivers a very pleasant taste right from the start, though it did fade a little and become very slightly harsh after a few glasses. I can't quite give it a 90, and I have had better Vacqueyras wines for the same price.
Bodega Del Abad Dom Bueno Crianza 2001, Do Bierzo
Galicia, Spain$14.95
This wine did not impress me at first, but the rich coffee liquorice flavour really grew on me. Nice long finish too. I have been complaining a lot lately, so it is really nice to find a wine that over performs. Watch out for the sediment. Great wine.
Vega Sauco Adoremus Tinta De Toro 2004, Do Toro
Castilla y León, Spain$19.95
Another great Spanish wine. Maybe it is because they release them when they are ready, this one is a 2004. Gord Stimmell has it right, except I rate it higher. Wonderful rich chocolate flavour and great length.
Weingut Bründlmayer Kamptaler Terrassen Grüner Veltliner 2010
Kamptal, Austria$24.95
Tyler's tasting notes say it for me. This is one of the nicest Gruners I have had. Great balance. I would suggest taking advantage of the screw top and drinking only one glass at a time, because it does not grow wth the second glass.
Terredora Loggia Della Serra Greco Di Tufo 2010, Docg
Campania, Italy$19.95
Best served cold, and enjoyed in small quantities. I have been sipping this all week, and it tastes a little different each time. Sometimes I taste a little Chardonnay, but more often that special mineral taste that the mountains of Italy can deliver. Recommended.
Joseph Cattin Muscat 2010, Ac Alsace
Alsace, France$15.95
This has the same unique taste as an Alsace gewertztraminer, so I assume that is the taste of the terroir. Very nice for the price.
Château Lamothe Cissac 2005, Ac Haut Médoc
Bordeaux, France$23.95
Very smooth, with none of the flaws often found in a cheaper Medoc. A slight taste of pepper and vanilla. Great value, especially for a Bordeaux wine.
Southbrook Triomphe Organic Cabernet Franc Rosé 2011, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Canadian wines often do not work for me, so I am pleased when I find an exception. This has a crisper, cleaner taste than the equivalent Provence Rose. Perfect for the current heat wave. I will buy more of this one.
Momo Pinot Gris 2011, Marlborough, South Island
Marlborough, New Zealand$19.95
I recently enjoyed the 2010 version, which was wonderful. The 2011 is more subtle and not as sweet. I would call it smokey honey. It really grows one me, unlike a lot of white wines, so I suggest sharing a whole bottle with a friend.
Bodegas Castaño Hécula Monastrell 2009, Do Yecla
Spain$12.60
It started with a sour cherry taste, but with a little time the sourness declined and the rich taste came through. Nice finish too. This is a very good wine, especially for the price.
