Château Bégadanet 2005, Ac Médoc
Bordeaux, France$17.95
Although I thought the bouquet was a little off, the taste is classic, smooth Bordeaux. Great value. I bought more.
Santa Carolina Reserva De Familia Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Maipo Valley
Maipo Valley, Chile$19.95
Lots of flavour, but it has a bit of harshness. Using the carafe did not help much. It is no better than we can grow in Ontario.
Ringbolt Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Margaret River
Western Australia, Australia$21.95
With lots of fruit, including cherry, there is also good complexity. I get a little pepper on the finish. There is nothing in it to complain about. Excellent value.
Angulo Innocenti Malbec 2010, La Consulta, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$18.95
David describes it well. Nice deep taste, but I did not think it was smooth enough to rate a ninety. Decent value, though.
Cousiño Macul Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Maipo Valley, Chile$16.45
Very rich taste, though I would describe it as being on the slightly dry and sour side. The first time I thought it had a bit of harshness, then I followed Steve's instructions and decanted it for an hour. That worked. This is a very good wine and a great value.
Malivoire Gamay 2014
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Pepper on fhe nose, the first taste is a little harsh. But it grows on me, and becomes a decent glass of wine. It develops an interesting finish. So be patient with it.
Planets De Prior Pons 2009
Priorat, Spain$24.95
My first impression was an incredible smoothness and purity on the bouquet and the taste. It just got better and better. Maybe the impression by some reviewers that it is not ready was solved by a few hours in the carafe. It started with the subtlety of a Pinot Noir, and evolved to the power of a Chateauneuf du Pape, with an amazing peppery finish. There are still some left at this writing; I am going to stock up on this one.
Clifford Bay Pinot Noir 2011
Marlborough, New Zealand$19.95
Simple and fairly smooth, but there is not a lot of interest here. I can taste the lemon-lime undertone common to many New Zealand wines, but it does not overwhelm the wine. It does not quite take me where I want to go for twenty dollars.
Château St. Jean Fumé Blanc 2011, Sonoma County
California, Usa$18.95
Decent wine, but I have had much better for less than twenty bucks. It does not have the magic in it do deserve a 90, in my opinion.
Lungarotti Rubesco 2010, Doc Rosso Di Torgiano
Umbria, Italy$17.95
Lots of pepper, almost like a Zinfandel. This is a very good quality wine, worth buying again.
