Château De Chambert Les Tourelles Cahors 2008, Ac
Southwest, France$16.75
This is a very balanced wine with definite aromas and flavours of woodsmoke and blackberry. Medium to long finish.
The Malbec keeps the wine quite dark and I think the Merlot mixed in helps to mellow the wine. This 2008 is great to drink now (2012). I let the bottle breathe for 1-2 hours and the wine did not get NOTICEABLY different as it breathed throughout the night.
Enjoyed this over a special steak dinner- paired nicely.
This is a nice red for a dark - more ornate salad, a red meat and a chocolate or fruit dessert.
dry- easy to drink with food or alone.
Torre Rosazza Pinot Grigio 2009, Colli Orientali Del Friuli
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy$19.95
LCBO Old World Wine appreciation 1/8:
-light straw colour,
-pear, green apple, apricot.
-young and fresh
-low acid, smooth
-good as apertif- uncomplicated wine that would go well with cheese
Henry Of Pelham Reserve Baco Noir 2009, VQA Ontario
Ontario, Canada$24.95
LCBO Wine Appreciation -Canada 5/8
Had 2010 Vintage
-deep crimson- black cherry,
-not nice
-not good.
-do not buy.
Errazuriz Max Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Aconcagua Valley
Chile$19.05
LCBO Wine Appreciation -South America 7/8
-Chocolate covered cherries,
-dry
-would buy..maybe- for the smell- not outstanding but definitely good.
Trius Riesling Dry 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula

very impressed considering I prefer reds.
Great summer sipper.
Misiones De Rengo Gran Reserva Cuvée Carmenère 2010, Rapel Valley
Rapel Valley, Chile$19.95
LCBO Wine Appreciation -South America 5/8
-smoke on teh nose
-extra dry, no length- disappears righta fter the sip
-tannin end
-would definitely purchase for an easy wine- with a clean finish- best enjoyed with food where you want the FOOD taste to linger and not necessarily the wine.
-perhaps better value- but i find this wine interesting, unique extra dry wine with no finish.
would repruchase with the right meal
-beef patties, juicy burgers, smoked roasted meats, red meat
Domaine Rodet Château De Mercey Mercurey 2009, Ac
Burgundy, France$22.95
Third White wine at LCBO Old Wine Appreciation course notes:
-Yellow/ Golden colour
-grassy/ methyl smell on linger (aka- don't linger)
-ripe apples
-low acid, matured in oak- the oak is subtle and softens the taste/finish. (not oak fwd)
-vanilla smoke, buttery finish, round
*I have never been a fan of white wines but I would say that this is a wine that would change my mind considerably.
Really well balanced- you can tell a good wine when you can instantly imagine what you would want to eat this with- as soon as I tasted this I wrote down:
"Fish in cream sauce!" and "buttery oysters"
Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2009, Do Campo De Borja
Spain$19.95
LCBO old world- Spain
100% grenache and tastes like it! Very typical grenache taste- fruity and juicy with some toasty spice
-has a young, purple brigth red colour
-smell of wood and toasted oak
-juicy, ribena, light, lively, supple, velvet and smooth
-vanilla taste is indicative of spanish wines (because of the american oak)
- medium bodied- quite sweet
-very tasty but I feel like I could get a new world grenache for a better price
-I also would not typically get a 100% grenache- Grenache on its own is too juicy tasting- Iw oud like something with a drier finish- typically.
Cave Spring Estate Riesling 2010, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$17.95
LCBO Wine Appreciation- Canada 1/8
-silver tinged, watery yellow- cool climate riesling
-fruit, pear, grapefruit, sweet, green apple
-mouthwatering, balanced, good but would not purchase for the price.
-not especially good value
Wolf Blass Gold Label Shiraz 2008, Barossa, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$28.95
LCBO New World Wine -Australia 6/8
My tasting notes resolved at "Magic"
underlined twice.
Definite buy- pricier than I would like to spend for a shiraz- aussie shiraz' on the cheap side are just so basically good so it's rare to find something at 30$ that I don't mind spending the extra $$ on for the experience.
This wine truly does have impeccable balance- extra dry with definite tobacco.
Definite buy for a nice dinner with red meat.
