Jackson Triggs Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Viognier Grand Reserve 2010, Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$28.09
Rather pricey for the flavours- you can easily get this flavour profile at $20.
Woody aroma, prune, toasted leather, dry round medium-full palate.
-Nice medium-long finish
-nice sipping wine-
-Also would go well with cedar planked salmon, a white meat paired with macerated berries, or a smoked red meat.
-Tasted Nov 2013.
Nice, but not nice enough for 30$ Would only buy if I needed to get a nice wine from BC. Poor value
Burgerspital Trocken Silvaner 2010, Qualitätswein, Franken, Estate Btld., Dry
Germany$16.95
LCBO Old World Germany 1/8
not memorable
subtle flavours
Alamos Chardonnay 2011, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$14.95
LCBO Wine Appreciation -South America 3/8
-butter and light oal on the nose
-ends with acid
-good value, would purchase- rather good value, however i'm fairly sure I would find a creamy/buttery chardonnay from france within a couple dollars more with better balance
Hungaria Grande Cuvée Brut
Hungary$16.00
Really great for the price!
Not sweet at all
delicate
short finish
definitely would buy again for such a bargain price.
Bodegas Piqueras Valcanto Monastrell 2008, Do Almansa
Spain$13.95
LCBO Old World wine- Spain
- too simple- i would suggest this for a dinner party where the meal is unpredictable
-"crowd pleaser"- dry red -better quality wine
aroma of cigar box, blueberry
-subtle, dry, not a lot of tannin,
-simple
-very short finish
clean palette-
simple straight fwd.
i could prob find better value but not bad.
Lungarotti Torre De Giano Bianco Di Torgiano 2010, Doc
Umbria, Italy$14.95
LCBO old world wine appreciation- italy
-very light, tinged with silver straw
-fresh citrus smell, grapefruit
-light acid, long finish
-poached pear
good to okay, would not repurhase
Pike & Joyce Pinot Noir 2009, Adelaide Hills, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$16.90
LCBO New World Wine- Australia 3/8
This feels like a pinot parading as an old-world cab sauv. It's in your face- stronger than what you would expect from a pinot. Definitely agree that it is well structured but I wouldn't call it delicious.
Has a woody and syrupy smell, discernable tannin, delicate-
would not purchase at this price.
Papale Primitivo Di Manduria 2008, Dop
Puglia, Italy$19.95
LCBO Wine appreciation Italy- 7/8 tastings:
- dark crimso red
-seems like the cognac or brandy of wines.
-a very low sipping wine.
-long finihs, medium tannin
-tobacco, smoky
-probably better with age and will soften over time.
-would not likely purchase
Domaine Joannet Bourgogne Hautes Côtes De Nuits 2009, Ac
Burgundy, France$21.95
first Red wine at LCBO Old Wine Appreciation course notes:
-Ruby red, light bodied
-earthy smoke smell
-light tannins, soft and oaked
-Good if you like a lighter red. I don't prefer it though. Well balanced with the food pairings they suggest: salmon steaks, or a portobello mushroom burger (aka- veg/pesc options on a "meaty" meal)
Willy Gisselbrecht Tradition Riesling 2010, Alsace
Alsace, France$15.95
Second White wine at LCBO Old Wine Appreciation course notes:
-Yellow, golden colour
-Nose: floral and vanilla (although instructor said lemon-lime and grapefruit!)
-Sweet, subtle and smooth
-Low acidity makes for a sweeter taste
