Piper Heidsieck Brut, Champagne

Enjoyed this at a wine tasting- LCBO Old World Wine appreciation course.
Very nice- Champagne is never my first choice. Nor is it my second, third fourth...
you get the picture.
But I really enjoyed this. Very clean on the palate. Fresh and citrus-forward.

Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Knights Valley, Sonoma County

New World LCBO 7/8
-spice, meatspice
- i like the flavour a lot, not the tanning- would need aging or a lot of breathing
-aroma very nice when breathes
-i woudl let it sit for awhile
definite, toasty oak, coffee, vanilla and spice notes
-not particularly good value.

Guy Farge Terre De Granit St Joseph 2009, Ac

Third Red at LCBO Old World Wine appreciation:
-deep red/ purple
-woody and earthy on the nose
-Oaked, barnyard
-surprisingly round finish- long finish

-well paired with roast beef, duck- a fatty red meat.

Saltram Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Barossa Valley, South Australia

LCBO New World Wine- Australia 5/8
A very very good wine
- slightly sweeter than I prefer (I like extra dry)- You can definitely taste the licorice, plum, and mushroom flavour.
Would purchase- moderate price for a fairly balanced wine.

Perrin & Fils Les Sinards Châteauneuf Du Pape 2009, Ac

Second Red at LCBO Old World Wine appreciation:
-Berry, raspberry and fig!
Very juicy, red taste- sweet, fruity tannins
-medium bodied

very drinkable- if I were looking for a "juicy" berry wine this would be it.

D'arenberg D'arry's Original Shiraz Grenache 2008, Mclaren Vale, South Australia

LCBO New World Wine- Australia 4/8
This is a very good, but not great shiraz-grenache. It has ripe berry and lots of fruit. Juicy and slightly peppery.
Not great value for what I would be looking for- I prefer something less fruity

would not purchase.
-great for a shiraz lover that likes shiraz for the berry and fruity qualities.

Henri Bourgeois Les Baronnes Sancerre 2010, Ac

First White wine at LCBO Old Wine Appreciation course notes:
-light with greenish hue
-Pear and gooseberry flavours
-Starts slightly sharp but has a soft finish
-Sweet tasting
-Clean finish, fresh
-Easy to drink

Lacoste Borie 2008, Ac Pauillac, 2nd Wine Of Château Grand Puy Lacoste

-Crimson, brown red
-woody, musty, smoke
-medium firm tannins
-smoke and vanilla flavour
-round and soft finish- long finish
-dry
Good wine but I feel like I could find something comparable for less.
Well balanced but I'm not sure I would call it good value.

Misiones De Rengo Gran Reserva Cuvée Carmenère 2010, Rapel Valley

-smoke on teh nose
-extra dry, no length- disappears righta fter the sip
-tannin end

-would definitely purchase for an easy wine- with a clean finish- best enjoyed with food where you want the FOOD taste to linger and not necessarily the wine.

-perhaps better value- but i find this wine interesting, unique extra dry wine with no finish.

would repruchase with the right meal

-beef patties, juicy burgers, smoked roasted meats, red meat
