Pisoni Teroldego 2008, Igt Vigneti Delle Dolomiti
Alto Adige-Trentino, Italy$11.95
Light-bodied, with notes of red fruit and notable herbaceous notes. Reminds me alot of a Loire Valley or Niagara Cab Franc. Fine acidity and a decent finish. Best with food. Drink now over over the next year or so.
Vaeni Naoussa Xinomavro Damaskinos 2004
Greece$13.95
Dried red fruit, earth and some notable (but not overbearing) notes of vanilla from the oak ageing. A fine seam of acidity and tannin. A very enjoyable red, with or without food. Greece is really come forth with some fine wines without sacrificing regional character. Superb value here.
Ortas Tradition Côtes Du Rhone Villages Rasteau 2009, Ac
Rhône, France$17.95
Decent, ripe fruit with plenty of pepper and herbs typical of the region. However, lacks depth and complexity, with an average finish. Fairly priced but hardly a spectacular value. Drink now or over the next couple of years.
Mas Des Dames La Dame 2008, Ac Côteaux De Languedoc
Languedoc, France$13.45
Yet another fine value red from the Languedoc. Perhaps a bit less overtly fruity than others from the area, this has plenty to offer - local herbs, pepper, along with dark fruit and smoke. Alot of wine for the money, at $13.45 on sale. Drink over the next couple of years. Tasted Oct/11.
Macarico Rosso Del Vulcano 2007, Doc Aglianico Del Vulture
Calabria, Italy$14.95
Interesting label - no mention of the producer on the front label at all, one has to look on the back label. In any case, this is a mouth-filling, very ripe red made from Aglianico. Red/dried fruits with soft supportive tannin and fine length. Very well done and excellent value.
Tor Del Colle Riserva Brindisi 2006, Doc
Abruzzo, Italy$12.95
Fresh red berries fruits, with notes of sour cherries. Quite a fine backbone of acidity, especially for a wine grown in such a warm region. Not particularly complex, but nicely made and a good food wine - I should think it would match well to pizza or simple tomato-based pasta dishes. More than fairly priced at about $13.
éric Texier Vaison La Romaine Côtes De Rhône Villages 2007, Ac
Rhône, France$13.95
Smooth, approachable, with plenty of ripe fruit, all supported by typical notes of local herbs and black pepper. Really great value at about $14. Just love those Cotes du Rhone reds.
Quinta Dos Roques Vinho Tinto 2007, Doc Dão
Dão, Portugal$18.95
A very typically Portuguese red (in the best sense), with notes of wild berry, earth with well-judged oak. Not especially complex, but very enjoyable for current consumption or short t-erm cellaring. Good price, too.
Domaine Les Yeuses Les épices Syrah 2008, Vins De Pays D'oc
Languedoc, France$15.95
Similar to the '07, plenty of black pepper and spice (hence the name!), along with meat and some dark berry fruit. Like the '07, I enjoyed this wine but found it just a bit lacking in fruit and depth. With the $2 price increase, not the compelling value it was but still fairly priced. Drink now. Tasted Oct '11/
Mas Des Bressades Cuvée Tradition Blanc 2010, Ac Costières De Nîmes
Rhône, France$14.95
Notes of nectarine/peach, with hints of lemon. Slightly chalky, with note of lanolin on the finish. Quite viscous in texture, almost like a late hares twine, but this is a dry wine. Fine value. Tasted December 2011.
