Brancaia Chianti Classico 2015 Bottle
Brancaia Chianti Classico 2015
Tuscany, Italy
$20.75

100% Sangiovese, 2/3 aged in stainless steel tanks, 1/3 in concrete - sees no wood at all. Lovely red cherry fruit dominates, along with the tartness and acidity that one comes to expect fro Chianti. Tannin is well measured the flavours are complex and long finishing. But the purity of the fruit really shines here. What a fine CC this is! Drinking now, but should hold for a few more years. Tasted July 2020.

Angels Gate Pinot Noir 2015, VQA Niagara Peninsula

Agree with Steve, this is indeed a very good pinot for the price. Ripe red fruit, beetroot and spice with a decent structure and good acidity. More than fairly priced. Tasted April 2018.

Chapoutier Marius 2016, Languedoc Bottle
Chapoutier Marius 2016, Languedoc
Languedoc, France
$13.95

A solid, grapey and very youthful (< 1year from harvest!) southern french blend. You can always count on Chapoutier to deliver a wine true to it region and that is true here. At $12.95, a great deal, on sale, this must be the deal of the year at $9.95. Tasted July 2017.

Pierre Amadieu Romane Machotte Gigondas 2014, Rhône Valley Bottle
Pierre Amadieu Romane Machotte Gigondas 2014, Rhône Valley
Rhône, France
$28.95

BIg, rich, ripe, Gigondas. Tannin is still firm but the wine is open for business. I like the balance between the herb infused fruit, acids and tannin with little oak influence. A bit rough around the edges Drinking nicely now. Tasted Feb 2020.but an authentic south Rhone red.

Domaine Les Grands Bois Cuvée Les Trois Soeurs Côtes Du Rhône 2015, Ac

Big, warm cuddly CdR, loaded with super ripe fruit. and notes of black pepper and herbs. Soft structure, a bit of heat on the finish, but very satisfying indeed. Quintessential CdR here and super value. Drink now or over the next year. Tasted Nov 2019.

Quinta Da Pellada D A C Tinto 2014, Do Dão Bottle
Quinta Da Pellada D A C Tinto 2014, Do Dão
Dão, Portugal
$16.95

Approachable easy to like Dao. Black fruit with noted meaty flavours and spice. Quite softly structured and intended for earlier consumption (as evidenced by the humourously short cork...well they save 12 cents, it all adds up!). But a decent value. Tasted Feb 2018.

Fattoria La Pupille Morellino Di Scansano 2015 Bottle
Fattoria La Pupille Morellino Di Scansano 2015
Tuscany, Italy
$17.95

Bigger and riper than a typical Chianti Classico, this Sangiovese from the warmer Morellino di Scansano still has the hallmarks of that grape - sour cherry fruit, and hint of earthiness, brisk acidity and dusty tannin. Not overly complex, but well within what one might expect at the price. You can safely ignore the 93 pt rating from James Suckling (his credibility long ago evaporated for me). Tasted May 2018.

Château De Treviac 2015, Ap Corbières Bottle
Château De Treviac 2015, Ap Corbières
Languedoc, France
$17.95

Consistently excellent, the '15 Treviac continues the trend. Rugged, darkly fruited, with spice, pepper, local herbs and dried meat notes. Heady and ripe, with a firm but approachable structure and a long finish. A great value yet again. Tasted March 2018.

Rymill The Yearling Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Coonawarra Bottle
Rymill The Yearling Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Coonawarra
South Australia, Australia
$10.55

What a fine value this is. Nicely ripened (but not over ripe) cabernet fruit, balanced with the right amount of tannin and just a touch of oak. A bit cool(er) climate herbs and acidity on the finish but nothing off-putting. Very nice indeed. Tasted May 2018.

Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2016, Doca Rioja Bottle
Palacios Remondo La Vendimia 2016, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain
$18.95

A modern take on Rioja, with bright, ripe red fruits dominating the flavour profile, with virtually no notable oak, save perhaps a bit of spice. A bit closed when first poured, this opens up nicely after 15 minutes or so, so give it a quick splash in the decanter before serving. Nice value. Tasted Nov 2018.
