João Portugal Ramos Loureiro Vinho Verde 2021, D.O.C.
Vinho Verde, Portugal$13.95
Easy peasy lemon squeezy is how I view buying this wine,,,,,a no brainer for $14, Crisp, citrusy, relatively light-bodied but full of flavour and vigor. Superb match with steamed mussels. Going back to get a few more for summer sipping. Tasted Feb 2023.
Castello Di Bossi C. Berardenga Chianti Classico 2020, D.O.C.G. Castelnuovo Berardenga
Tuscany, Italy$22.95
Agree with JS, this wine is raisined/oxidized. Not very good at all. Drink now if you must. Disappointing from a producer whose wines I have enjoyed in the past. Tasted Aug 2024.
Kir Yianni Cuvée Villages Xinomavro 2019, P.D.O. Naoussa
Macedonia, Greece$17.95
Bright red cherry fruit, crisp acidity and resolved tannin. Good complexity, inviting and well made. As with the '17, a lovely food wine,...or not, if you have no food prepared and you just want a glass of good wine. For near(er) term consumption, Good stuff. Tasted May 2024.
Bastide Miraflors Syrah/Vieilles Vignes Grenache 2020, Ap Côtes Du Roussillon
Roussillon, France$19.95
Rich, ripe, loaded with pepper and spice and ripe fruit. In your face wine. What's not to like? A bit of bitterness and astringency may detract for some folks, but not so much for me. Good stuff, always welcome on these cool days of November. Taste nov 2023.
Domaine Gouron Chinon 2020, Ac
Loire, France$17.95
Medium-bodied, with bright red raspberry fruit, hints of cab franc herbal notes, silky frim tannin and bright acidity, Unencumbered by overt use of oak, this is a pure expression of Chinon Cabernet Franc. Certainly one of the best values of 2023 at vintages and blows away anything from Niagara even a prices considerably higher, Lovely wine, Tasted Aug 2023.
Château De Tréviac Corbières 2020, A.P.
Languedoc, France$15.75
A bit of a disappointing vintage, this 2020 Treviac. Nice enough flavours but rather simple and short finishing. Drink in the near term, Tasted Oct 2024.
Jeff Carrel Les Darons 2021, Ap Languedoc
Languedoc, France$17.95
Fun fact: Jeff Carrel is not related to Steve Carrel. No resemblance at all either. Amazing, huh? I wish that they were related, how cool would that be? But I bet Steve would like this wine. Really good southern French blend, mostly Grenache. A no nonsense unpretentious red with oodles of character. and a great price too. Tasted Jul 2024
Pesquié édition 1912m Ventoux 2021, A.P.
Rhône, France$17.95
Love the mix of ripe fruits and herbs, Drinking this inspires me to cycle to the peak of My Ventoux. A glass of this every 5km, I think that I can do it. Then again, I could just stay at the bottom and sip on this. Nice stuff. Good value too. Organic? Great. Tasted June 2024.
Chateau Saint Roch Corbarol Syrah/Grenache 2021, A.P. Côtes Du Roussillon
Languedoc, France$16.95
As always, a solid red from Lafage. Low acid, fairly high alcohol, but thankfully no significant residual sugar. Perhaps a bit simple, but it is delicious and a fine value at $16.95. No point ageing this for any period of time, this is ready to go. Tasted Mar 2024.
Santa Carolina El Pacto Agreement No. 1 Limited Production Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Sustainable, Valle De Cachapoal
Cachapoal Valley, Chile$17.95
Ripe, and rich, with balanced oak and finely judged tannin Just a wee bit of herbal notes come through which simply add to the complexity. A wine for nearer term consumption in my view (i.e the next 2-3 years) but at $18, worth buying a few to see how it ages. great value indeed. Tasted Apr 2024.
