Simple red, with simple red fruit flavours and a touch of vanilla, Rather hollow with a very sour, thankfully short finish. About what one might expect from a $8 wine. Drink now. Tasted March 2012.

Trapiche Astica Sauvignon/Semillon 2011, Cuyo

60-40 Sauvignon-Semillon blend. Clean, crisp, with notes of citrus, tree fruit and gooseberry. The sauvignon blanc character really shines though. Good complexity and length for so little $. Remarkable value. Tasted Jan 2013.

Very ripe fruit, with some notes of dried fruit and earth. Failry dense on the palate with firm tannin on the finish. Alot going on in this wine, though it doesn't quite strike the right balance. Enjoyable in any case, it would be interesting to taste this in a year or two to see if the wine improves (and if the fruit holds). Tasted Aug 2012.

Gotin Del Risc Mencia 2010, Bierzo

Solid mencia here, medium bodied with dark red fruits and will balanced oak. A bit of spice and dried meats. Not particularly complex and the finish tends to fade a bit quickly but a pleasant wine, and reasonably priced. Tasted April 2015.

"Multi-awars winning" claims Vintages ..well, I'd certainly hate to taste the wines at those competitions that lost. This wine lacks depth and intensity amd is devoid of any character. The finish fades quickly. At $13, it's no bargain. If you are looking for a good Portuguese red for not too much cash, spend the extra $2 on Crasto or $3 more will get you Duas Quintas Tinto.

Not really sure why I bought this wine - must have been on sale. That is not to say that I don't like wines from Cahors. this particular wine was ok. Soft, approachable, with relatively simple red berry fruit and a touch of spice. Nothing remarkable, just ok.

Based on Mr Parker's notes, I expected a massive blockbuster, While ripe and pure, this wine is extremely well balanced - not in-your-face at all, It is a textbook South Rhone red, with nothing out of place, soft tannin and a long finish. A joy to taste. Drink now or in the next few years.

Floral nose, with lots of citrus and a bit of honeyon the palate. Oak is very subtle. Very decent finish. $12? A no-brainer for summer sipping at that price. Very nice indeed.

Light-bodied, with lean cranberry/tart cherry flavours. This is tight and firm but finishes with very sour notes and high acidity. For me, a completely joyless wine at the present. maybe time will improve this but I wouldn't bet on it. Really disappointing given the glowing reviews. Tasted Sept 2013.
