Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre 2012, Igt Veronese Bottle
Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre 2012, Igt Veronese
Veneto, Italy
$24.95

A solid red, with very ripe slightly raisined fruit (semi-appassimento wine-making). Good depth and length and perhaps a tad more residual sugar than necessary, but not cloying. A commercial wine to some extent but enjoyable anyway. Picked up on sale a few months ago at a more reasonable $18 and change, now being re-released in the May 28 for $25, which is much too much $. Tasted May 2016.

Errazuriz Estate Pinot Noir 2014, Aconcagua Valley Bottle
Errazuriz Estate Pinot Noir 2014, Aconcagua Valley
Chile
$8.45

From the first whiff right through the finish, there is no doubt that this is pinot noir. Cranberry/rhubarb flavours with some earthy and smoky notes. Good complexity and length of finish. Remarkably good pinot for $14. I can only chalk up DL and JS tasting notes to bottle variation as I don't tasted any of what they don't like about the wine. Good rec by ST. Tasted April 2016.

Sagrado Tinto 2016, Doc Douro Bottle
Sagrado Tinto 2016, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal
$16.95

Aromatically shy, this Douro exhibits cool blackberry fruit with a firm texture. David's description of this being "stony" is quite apt. The flavours are pleasant and oak is well dialed in yet this red fails to excite. It's a decent wine, not a bad price but my feeling was one of "It's ok". That said, this showed much better with beef stew, so, yeah, let's call this a food wine, Might show a bit better in a year or so Tasted March 2021.

Château Labesse 2016, Ac Castillon Côtes De Bordeaux Bottle
Château Labesse 2016, Ac Castillon Côtes De Bordeaux
Bordeaux, France
$16.95

David is right, there is some weird spritz/gas that is quite prevalent. Bubbles even rose in the glass after pouring this wine, almost like pouring a soda. Along with this effervescence is a lean, shrill note. Absolutely could not finish a glass. Flawed, to be avoided (at least, judging by my bottle). Tasted Sep 2020.

Speck Bros. Three Of Hearts Pinot Grigio 2020, Sustainable, VQA Niagara Peninsula Bottle
Speck Bros. Three Of Hearts Pinot Grigio 2020, Sustainable, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$16.35

Yet another brand from the Speck Bros. I can't even keep up with what wine is what from them. Anyway, this is a perfectly serviceable pinot grigio, quite enjoyable on a hot summer day. Would be better value at $15.95.

Guarda Rios Red 2022, Vinho Regional Alentejano Bottle
Guarda Rios Red 2022, Vinho Regional Alentejano
Alentejo, Portugal
$11.95

Agree with David on this, a no nonsense straightforward red with hint of sweetness (just 5g/L according to LCBO website, seems a bit higher). Simple but very enjoyable. Great bbq wine while we still have these warm evenings, At $11, a steal. Portugal rules! Tasted Sep 2024.

Domaine Combebelle Saint Chinian 2007, Ac, Midi Bottle
Domaine Combebelle Saint Chinian 2007, Ac, Midi
Languedoc, France
$11.95

A pleasant and very typical Saint-Chinian. Red fruits, herb and meaty notes on a lean frame. Those seeking a big fruit bomb should skip this offering but those who enjoy food-friendly, dry reds from France's south will appreciate the value here.

Calamus Estate Riesling 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Vinemount Ridge Bottle
Calamus Estate Riesling 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Vinemount Ridge
Ontario, Canada
$13.75

If tasted blind, there would be no doubting the variety. Fine acidity, typical flavours of lemon, and greapefuit along with floaral aromas of flavours leave no doubt that this is Riesling. Yet, the wine is suffering a flavour shortage. Light, simple, and short-finishing, even a bit watery. Overpriced at $17, there are better Niagara offerings in this price range from the likes of Cave Spring and Flat Rock...or just buy a Kabinett from Germany.
