Grão Vasco 2017

I've enjoyed this wine before but a recent bottle of the 2018 vintage was off. Quite tart and actually frizzy. Initially reminded me of vinho verde. Moderated after a day or so but still only marginally drinkable. Surprising for such lapses in a screw top.

Symington Altano 2016, Doc Douro

Hugely tannic, but the tannins are as smooth as butter. Very elegant. Mid-weight. Great value at 13.95

Château Des Charmes Cuvée Michèle Pinot Noir 2018

Agree with the consensus above. No blockbuster but perfectly serviceable. When I feel like a light red, this fits the bill with no hard edges.

Monasterio De Las Viñas Gran Reserva 2013, Dop Cariñena

Beautiful wine with sandalwood overtones, good acidity, and smooth finish. A mature Spanish red for sure, but lots of life still. Decent price.

Jacob's Creek Classic Shiraz Cabernet 2018, Southeastern Australia

Full-bodied and rich, good acidity helps avoids jamminess. Finish is a bit hot.

Pelee Island Pinot Noir 2017, VQA Ontario

Seems a little thin. Both acidic and a bit sweet at the same time. Coarse finish.

Jerome Quiot Les Arnevels Rosé 2019, Ac Côtes De Provence

Very refreshing but smooth.

Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 2018, Coastal Region

Review is for 2019, which is not listed. Quite full-bodied with noticeable oak and relatively high acidity. Enjoyable.

Palacio Quemado Vendimia Seleccionada 2018, Do Ribera Del Guadiana

Interesting, but somewhat coarse and hot. Didn't hold well after opening.

Aliança Bairrada Reserva 2018, Bairrada

Smooth, austere, with good acidity. Lighter than I expected. Very good value. Will buy again at this price point.

Just checked the 2018 vintages: this is s really enjoyable wine: the baga gives it a Nebbiolo-like character well above its price point. I keep coming back to this wine - and it’s under 10 bucks!
