Baron De Ley Gran Reserva 2001, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$29.95
I'm not inclined to exaggerations, but every now and then you come across an extraordinary surprise, and this is one. What a beautiful silky smooth, yet with luxurious depth, this Rioja is!
Enjoy, pausing to let in sink in, let it dance around in your mouth, and be happy... Viva Spain!
Stratus Red 2008, VQA Niagara On The Lake, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$44.20
These guys (Stratus) persuaded me that you could achieve excellence in Ontario with their 2007. The remarkable thing here is that under challenging conditions they pulled it off in 2008 again!
To be enjoyed with local pride!
Descendientes De J. Palacios Pétalos 2010, Do Bierzo
Galicia, Spain$25.00
An extraordinary example of mencia do Bierzo at its best.
Domaine De La Côte De L'ange Châteauneuf Du Pape 2010, Ac
Rhône, France$37.95
I could say some overused cliche about the rewards that come to those that wait... But, suffice it to say that if you have kept one of these in your cellar, it is ready! Recommend decanting as there was a bit of sediment. Very succulent CdP.
Enjoyed August 2018.
Domaine Du Vieux Lazaret Châteauneuf Du Pape 2009, Ac
Rhône, France$39.95
Plums and licorice greet you, maybe a little red berry as well, when you approach this medium to full bodied CdP. It sure delivers what you would expect at this price level from the well known Southern Rhone AOC. Very drinkable.
Muga Reserva 2008, Doc Rioja
Spain$23.95
I love a good Rioja, deep beautiful colour, inviting nose, full body, fruity and oaky. I love all the things that others list when saying why they are not partial to them. But, when the Tempranillo-Granacha blend is right, how could you not love its richness? This Muga Reserva, 2008, is very close to perfection. Match it right (food and company wise) and it is a winner!
