Wyndham Bin 555 Shiraz 2008, Southeastern Australia
Australia$12.95
Tasted Oct & Nov 2011. A very well rounded and consistent fruit forward shiraz. Nice medium-dark fruit flavours such as cherry, currant and plums come forward and mingle with a nice soft spiciness. A very nice wine for the price.
Sandbanks Cabernet Franc 2008, VQA Ontario
Ontario, Canada$14.95
Tasted October 2011. Very clean and crisp with lightly tart cherry & red currant flavours. A nice smooth fruity finish.
Coyote's Run Cabernet Merlot 2008, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.95
Tasted Dec 2011. A decent Ontario red blend a bit on the lighter side with nice notes of cranberry, currants and sour cherry. A hint of spice rounds it out.
Valpantena Torre Del Falasco Ripasso Valpolicella 2008, Doc
Veneto, Italy$16.95
Tasted Dec 2012. Very fruit forward with dark cherries and raisin, almost sweet. Nice tannins and finish make for a good everyday bottle, just a little one-dimensional.
Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, South Australia
Australia$16.95
Tasted October 2011. Fairly nondescript one-dimensional Cab with an oak heavy finish.
Mission Hill Five Vineyards Pinot Noir 2009
British Columbia, Canada$17.95
Tasted Sept. 2012. Very hot off the start (didn't really decant very long), but once left to it's own devices for a bit, settled down into some nice sour cherry flavours with some spicy undertones. Like a tart cherry pie with a hint of cinnamon and allspice dashed on top.
Catena Zapata Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Mendoza
Argentina$13.95
Tasted Dec 2011. Nice dark cherry and plum aromas and flavours with a touch of spiciness. Light on the tannin side, even perhaps a touch acidic. Nothing overly impressive, but in all fairness, was tasted out of a plastic goblet at a party.
Jacob's Creek Reserve Riesling 2010, Barossa
Australia$14.95
Tasted March 2012. Light citrus and apple notes with a pleasant underlying minerality. Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid presentation of the varietal.
La Garde Des Lions Visan 2007, Ac Côtes Du Rhône Villages
Rhône, France$14.95
Tasted September 2011 and February 2013. A nice soft well rounded red with a touch of spice complimenting the red and black berry flavours. Fruit was definitely fading on the second bottle.
Henry Of Pelham Pinot Grigio 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$14.95
Tasted Sept 2012. Crisp floral nose with sweet citrus gives way to a subdued Asian pear and something akin to water chestnut or jicama on the palate. Very nice everyday white.
