Tawse Sketches Of Niagara Rosé 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$15.95
Moray Tawse is a strong believer in eco-friendly, energy efficient winery operations at his Niagara escarpment winery. Rose ruby coloured, this wine is a blend of five red varietals (Gamay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). Its fresh acidity and zippy flavours of rhubarb, strawberry, white cherries and a streak of cranberry make it a perfect food wine for seafood appetizers, cold cuts, and pasta salads.
Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$16.95
Named after the black sheep used to crop the vine leaves so sunlight can ripen the grapes. Pale lemon yellow, it shows bright, lively acidity with lemon peel, key lime pie and white peach flavours, complemented by mineral undertones that offset its off-dry character.
Fielding Estate White Conception 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$18.95
This family owned Niagara winery varies the blend of its White Conception line every year. The 2009 vintage combines Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Viognier, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, using a mixture of stainless steel ferment and barrel aging. This crowd pleaser is an ideal sipping wine for around the pool on a hot summer day. Lemon lime flavours and an underlying minerality come through in the crisp, clean finish.
Rosehall Run Chardonnay Musqué 2009, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$14.95
Highly aromatic, typical of the Chardonnay Musque varietal, this pale wine has a perfumed nose of roses, blossoms and lychee. Apple, citrus and peach flavours, with traces of minerality, fill out the crisp palate.
Vidal Fleury Muscat De Beaumes De Venise 2008, Ac
Rhône, France$17.95
This fortified Muscat wine is delicate and refreshing, despite its 15% alcohol, low acidity and intense sweetness. Pale gold, it has floral aromas and scents of Seville oranges and dried apricots. Candied orange peel flavours come through in the rich, honeyed finish.
Norton Privada 2007, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$24.95
This Argentian winery was purchased by Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski (of the famed crystal house) in 1989. Privada is a blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. A jammy Bordeaux style wine, it shows great depth of cassis, black currant and chocolate flavours, with cedar and spice.
Wither Hills Pinot Gris 2010, Wairau Valley, Marlborough, South Island
New Zealand$14.75
Medium lemon yellow, it has a tinge of pink derived from the slightly pink hue of the grape skin. This classic example of Pinot Gris offers sweet ripe Anjou pear and beeswax aromas, complemented by honeydew melon notes that carry through on the creamy, slightly off-dry palate.
Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Durbanville
South Africa$11.95
Crisp wine, showing aromas of citrus, gooseberry, green apple and herbal notes with fresh acidity. Moderate intensity.
Lammershoek Roulette Blanc 2008, Wo Swartland
South Africa$21.95
An intriguing blend of South Africa’s signature Chenin Blanc (46%), Chardonnay (41%) and Viognier (11%). The latter hails from France’s Rhone region. It shows forward aromas of peach, honeysuckle, lemon, and pear, with hints of vanilla and cedar from aging in French oak (40% new). This wine jumps out of the glass and lingers on the palate, leaving a charming freshness and minerality on the finish.
Kenwood Chardonnay 2009, Sonoma County
California, Usa$18.95
This cool climate Chardonnay has bright citrus and subtle tropical notes, with obvious oak influence and a hint of butterscotch in the finish. Not overly complex.
