What a find at $17 for the dog days of August! Arinto is widely used in Portugal to bring natural acidity to white blends. It is the grape behind the classic coastal, almost beach-grown Bucelas whites near Lisbon. Here it is a rare Vinho Verde stand-alone from farther north in Portugal. It has fairly lifted, almost delicate aromas of yellow florals, peach, lemon/orange citrus and subtle spice.

A big fav - love this!
Aromas of spice, violets, and licorice, and sweetly ripened red fruit lead to a polished palate with ample sweetly ripened red fruit and cassis. Balanced and bright, it closes with a gentle warmth that complements rather than crowds its vibrant core.

The Winery of Good Hope is a less expensive brand by Radford Dale which makes exemplary Stellenbosch wines. The grapes for this excellent value are grown in the same vineyards by the same people, but costs are kept lower through production and bottling measures. Anyway, this offers a lot of character for the money. It is not as firm and structured as the Radford Dale Vinum Chenin Blanc that only costs $5 more, but it is generous, ripe and satisfying with just enough acidity. There is a touch of masking sulphur atop the almost tropical melon, guava/pear fruit. It is medium bodied, open knit, with a hint of sweetness, than firming acidity coming to the finish. Very good length.
