Open, ripe, fragrant, very pretty nose that mixes wet stone, honey, white flowers and stone fruit in a highly inviting way. Dry, lightbodied and delicate, this just dances off the tongue yet lingers on and on. Lovely and oh so drinkable. Brilliant wine from a brilliant vintage. This wine helped me win a gold medal in my wine/food pairing class (with Aloo Tikki and 2 chutneys). It's definitely more than off-dry but maintains a crispness and balanced acidity with pear, spices, and citrus. Everyone that has tasted this wine has raved about it. Rieslings from Wehlener Sonnenuhr have excellent reviews and outstanding value. Drink by 2015.
I have yet to serve this wine to someone who does not enjoy it. The spätlese (late harvest) designation indicates a greater degree of ripeness and therefore higher sugar level at harvest. That however, does not mean that the resultant wine is necessarily sweeter, and this is a brilliant example of exactly that.
Clean, fresh and lively with the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. Round in the mouth and slightly herbal for a moment before tastes of honey and apricot linger indefinitely. A stunning wine that will keep you returning for more. Tasted again April 2012.

A true gem of a wine. It has aromas of ripe apple, pear, honey, orange blossoms, some petrol, and minerality. While it has a reasonable amount of sweetness at only 8.5% alcohol, this is perfectly counterbalanced by the acidity. Light-medium bodied with an incredibly long finish. Damn fine! Tasted April 2012.
