Louis M. Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, Napa Valley
California, Usa$29.95
John, Sara and Evan describe my experience.
Very nice Cab; I would buy again (but it appears to be sold out).
Sandeman Vau Vintage Port 2000
Douro, Portugal$15.85
Agree with Edward and Tyler; not a 'true' Vintage feel but close enough for evenings not demanding the big stuff.
Better than some LBV's, and a good value.
Stewart Pinot Noir 2007, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County
California, Usa$65.00
Big and beefy...not words I usually use for a PN.
Very nice balance; will let the last sit for a few more years.
Stratus Red 2008, VQA Niagara On The Lake, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$44.20
One of the few 2008 Niagara reds that I bought 'in bulk' and have tasted several times. Tried another today...full of flavor and tannins, but easily matches with food.
I will save the rest as DL suggests and try the rest 2014-2018...if the promising flavors meld as it mellows this will be a show-stopper in a few years.
La Gravette De Certan 2009, Ac Pomerol, 2nd Wine Of Vieux Château Certan
Bordeaux, France$41.90
No dispute with the experts....ZERO buyer's remorse....tried it with grilled beef tenderloin...superb.
Château Fonplégade 2008, Ac St émilion, Grand Cru Classé
Bordeaux, France$47.95
This is very very good...what every premium Merlot should aspire to.
I wish I waited for a few years to let the tannins mellow, but I couldn't resist trying after reading the praise.
Now I have to scoop a few of the 125 left at the LCBO and ignore them for a while.
Storybook Mountain Mayacamas Range Napa Estate Zinfandel 2009, Napa Valley
California, Usa$69.95
A Zin to make me stop hating Zins.
The pros say it...agree w DL that 2014 might make it even smoother.
Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils Ancienne Cuvée Carnot Volnay Caillerets Premier Cru 2008
Burgundy, France$69.00
A bit young, but has everything I like in a red burg...will cellar the rest.
Might seem pricey, but there are local PNs at the same price point that do not come 'clos' (pun intended...).
Purchased via Vintages online...no idea if there are any left.
Le Clos Jordanne Le Clos Jordanne Vineyard Chardonnay 2009, Twenty Mile Bench, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$32.25
Full malo and sensible oaking give this the easy going buttery 'chard appeal' that was destroyed by the zealots in the 90's.
Excellent value; a Chard that defines why people went buttery-oak in the first place...without the excess of a craze out-of-control.
Delicious and perfect example of why Chards were king in the 80s and 90s (before the over-the-toppers killed it).
Think 'Nights on Broadway' smooth and classy before disco killed everything and you have this wine.
Stratus White 2008, VQA Niagara On The Lake
Ontario, Canada$38.20
I've tried this at least five times (most recently at a Cheese Boutique event at the winery).
It's always a pleasure.
Easily worth the price point.
