Tawse Growers Blend Pinot Noir 2016, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$25.95
Thin, green, bitter, unpleasant wine
Vadio Tinto 2012, Doc Barraida
Bairrada, Portugal$19.25
Was expecting so much based on the expert reviews and was somewhat disappointed. At times over the ring the Vadio was distinctly soupy and raisined. For the money, I would avoid it.
Domaine Tournon Mathilda Shiraz 2013, Victoria
Victoria, Australia$13.25
This is a superb wine and excellent value. When compared to Bila Haut & Cave de Roquebrun, both very good buys, I would go for the Tournon because of the superior fruit forward finish. Decanting does help.
Tessellae Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2014, Côtes Catalanes
Languedoc, France$18.95
This an excellent wine for the price! JS is right on but I am biased being a great fan of Rhone wines. Tessellae, slightly chilled, is a delight!
Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Shiraz 2018, Clare Valley
South Australia, Australia$18.75
Not a fan of this one. For my palate, too much chocolate and vanilla and not enough fruit. For the price, Folklore Shiraz is a better buy with a more vibrant flavour profile.
Alejandro Fernández Dehesa La Granja 2008, Vino De La Tierra De Castilla Y León
Spain$21.95
Wonderful surprise in this wine. Just the right degree of sandalwood flavour, good fruit; very enjoyable. No Brett in this wine unlike the San pio ripasso which shouldn't be on the LCBO shelf
Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette 2013, BC VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$29.90
Just returned from a visit and tasting at the Le Vieux Pin and couldn't agree more with J. Szabo. The Violette is a light syrah with a lovely nose and light tannins. So enjoyable that I had some shipped back to ON. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Okanagon. Also try Church & State, Stoneboat and Fairview, Wild Goose, too.
Mayschoss 140 Jahre Jubiläumswein Trocken Pinot Noir 2013, Qualitätswein, Ahr
Germany$21.95
Thanks for the recommendation winealign. For the price was a surprise from a german Pinot. Succulent and a bit sour but wonderfully flavourful with good fruit and something unique in the flavour profile; possibly the umami that Mr. Szabo refers to or the ripeness described by Mr. Godel. An interesting wine and great value!
Domaine Les Grands Bois Cuvée Maximilien Côtes Du Rhône Villages Cairanne 2012, Unfiltered, Ac
Rhône, France$22.95
Wonderful nose with clear "leery notes'. Love the fine tannins and highly flavourful on the palate. On the whole, a very interesting wine and flavour profile. Definitely worth more than one in the cellar!
Viña Casablanca Itera Seaside Journey 2021, Sustainable, Chile
Chile$18.25
Couldn't agree more with Mr. Lawrason on this wine. What a surprise and a delight. It is light with all of the typicity one would expect from a Pinot Noir - juicy and vibrant with lots of fruit on the palate. Great for those meals that require a Pinot and at this price, you can't loose.
