Rymill Coonawarra Mc2 2015, Coonawarra, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$14.25
Sour, stemmy and green.
Château Saint Roch Chimères Grenache/Syrah/Carignan 2018, Ap Côtes Du Roussillon Villages, Midi, France
Midi, France$19.95
Distinct seam of bitterness that detracts from the overall experience of this wine
Pan Riserva Montepulciano D'abruzzo 2010, Dop
Abruzzo, Italy$19.95
I should have waited for all of the pros to weigh in on this one. Oak, oak and more oak on the nose and palate. Green, resinous but thankfully some tannins to subvert the oak. A short finish and difficult to perceive fruit. As badly overpriced as it is over-oaked.
Château De Gourgazaud Cuvée Mathilde Minervois 2011, Ac
Languedoc, France$14.95
Heaps of flavour here; the fruit is wonderful, nice tannins and a terrific buy overall. Definitely worth keeping a few of these around if you're fan of this rustic old world flavour profile.
Domaine Bousquet Reserve Malbec 2012, Tupungato Valley, Uco Valley, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$18.95
Can't agree with the experts on this one. I found it soupy, raisined and lacking complexity. It was much better when cooled below 18C, but still wouldn't recommend it.
Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin Red 2011, Wo Paarl
Paarl, South Africa$16.95
Gentlemen, thank you for pointing us in the right direction. Excellent value. Quite rewarding; it's definitely zesty and the chocolate is there. Who could ask for more, these days at the LCBO, in a $15 wine.
Château D'or Et De Gueules Les Cimels 2013, Ac Costières De Nîmes
Rhône, France$15.95
This is a bigger than expected wine. Its a bit rough being tart and edgy but really, for $16, a steal. I am surprised that our experts didn't give it a higher score. Maybe they are afraid that its a little to rough for the typical Canadian palate.
Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2015, Do Campo De Borja
Spain$19.95
Great complexity, lots of liquorice, smoke is present and strong tannins. For me this a Big wine with some bitterness. I would be interested in DL's opinion on this one as the last vintage was described as having been "doctored".
M. Chapoutier Les Vignes De Bila Haut Côtes Du Roussillon Villages 2016, Ac
Languedoc, France$15.95
Tasted this in Nova Scotia; already released by the NSLC for $18. Excellent value as usual from Chapoutier! Great red fruit on the nose. Good acidity & great fruit on the palate.
Umberto Cesari Liano Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon 2020, Igt Rubicone, Emilia Romagna
Emilia Romagna, Italy$29.95
If you enjoy sappy, heavily cedar and chocolate flavoured wine, this is for you.
