QPR - Quality to Price Ratio - is an important factor when you are buying wine. Whether it is $9.00 or $59.00 you want to feel your wine is worth the spend. I post my suggestions on my blog and on Twitter. As well I talk about my Cellar Treasures and review Wine Books.
Reviews
Rothschild Escudo Rojo 2008, Maipo Valley
Chile$20.95
Nose of spicy blackberry with hints of tobacco and slight mint. Integrated and elegant on the palate.
Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut Cava
Spain$17.95
This is a simple pleasing wine because it is great quality for the price. It alson comes in numerous sizes so it is handy for many occassions. It has lemon and biscuit on both the nose and palate, but the clean acidity makes it more like lemon zest. Pairs well with seafood, or nothing on a hot summer day!
Guy Saget Marie De Beauregard Vouvray 2009, Ac
Loire, France$17.95
A subtle chalky minerality on the nose, with pear and a tangerine high note. Off dry palate, rich mouthfilling ginger honeyed layers - stonefruit and citrus. Lengthy finish with a lively minerality. Such a nice long cork, perhaps I should have held on to it for a while. Wine Spectator says drink through 2016. July 12
La Castellina Tommaso Bojola Chianti Classico 2007, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$21.95
Fruity and savoury nose - wild herbs and blackcurrant. Lengthy herbal, dried fruit palate with a hint of black tea. Great value. Tasted Dec 12
Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz 2010, Adelaide, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$21.95
Nose of black cherry and chocolate with a hint and oak-spice. Ripe fruit on the palate, good structure and well-balanced acid. Decent length.
Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay 2010, Sonoma County
California, Usa$18.95
Toasty oak and apple on the nose with hints of vanilla. Supple, round mouthfeel- slight butterscotch finish.
Château De Nages Réserve 2009, Ac Costières De Nîmes
Rhône, France$11.45
This wine is an incredible pleasure, especially for the price. Sorry that I am at the last of this because the stock is critically low. Well-Priced at $14.95, even better at $11.45! 70% Grenache / 30% Syrah. It is quite complex with ripe red and black fruit, spicy and slightly herbal, nicely balanced.
Leone De Castris Riserva Salice Salentino 2007, Doc
Puglia, Italy$18.95
Rich black fruit, earthy, smoky with a hint of anise. Well integrated and beautifully balanced.
La Fiole Cotes Du Rhone 2010
Rhône, France$15.95
Simple but pleasing wine. Good value for money with spicy and floral nose. Blackcurrant, plum and a slight herbaceous quality. Tasted Dec 12.
Ghost Pines Winemaker's Blend Zinfandel 2008, Sonoma/San Joaquin
California, Usa$19.95
This is a cheat because I tasted the 2009. Well structured, fruitforward but not jammy, lots of blackberry. Quite elegant especially for the price.
Great bargain for Zin lovers!
