QPR - Quality to Price Ratio - is an important factor when you are buying wine. Whether it is $9.00 or $59.00 you want to feel your wine is worth the spend. I post my suggestions on my blog and on Twitter. As well I talk about my Cellar Treasures and review Wine Books.

Finca El Origen Chardonnay 2010, Uco Valley, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$10.95
I don't even know where to start with this wine - it is sensational for the price.
On the nose - melon, white blossom with citrus notes and a slightly flinty minerality. The palate citrus-crisp with a very clean finish, but not entirely unoaked, so there is a gentle spice that lingers. Various batches were blended and some of those saw time in oak. There was also a blend of Malolactic fermentation vs. non. This rounded the wine a little and added complexity. This single vineyard - Las Pintadas, has three blocks with distinct soils which added to the complexity of the wine. Aug '12
Château Maris La Touge Minervois La Livinière Syrah 2009, Ac
Languedoc, France$16.75
Maybe it because I have spent time in Minervois/La Liviniere but this is just the sort of Midi Syrah that appeals to me. The smell of garrigue and dried bramble-fruit with a hint of pepper-spice entice. The nose is indicative of what the palate has to offer. Medium plus bodied wine with substantial length.
Domaine De Vaugondy Brut Vouvray, Traditional Method, Ac, Loire, France
Loire, France$16.75
Toasty nose with baked peach, pear and a honeyed quality. Stone fruit, lemon lime cleansing acid on palate. It is well integrated with a medium plus finish, just not as much complexity as I hoped for compared to other Vouvrays I have had recently. That being said, it is well-priced for the quality.
Paul Delane Cremant De Bourgogne

Honeydew melon, lime blossom, brioche and apple nose. pleasing, fresh lemon-lime citrus palate.
Château Moncontour Tête De Cuvée Brut Sparkling Vouvray, Traditional Method, Ac, Loire, France

Bright nose of green apple, pear and lime blossom. Crisp apple-lemony palate. Medium finish. Fantastic for the price!

Jean Luc Colombo Les Fées Brunes Crozes Hermitage Syrah 2009, Ac

Lovely nose of dark berry=fruit; floral, slightly herbal with a hint of tobacco. Well structured elegant wine - just slightly restrained.
Henry Fessy Moulin â Vent 2009, Ac

Candied cassis, red flower, toastiness on nose, raspberry, cherry & clove on the palate
Domaine La Borie Blanche Terroirs D'altitude 2008, Ac Minervois La Livinière

Very fine wine for the price. Full-bodied blend of Syrah, Genache & Mouvedre. Big nose of black plum, leather and a smokiness. Smoke, spice and dark black fruit on the palate.

I tasted this in September and was so pleased for the price. Green apple, pear, citrus, biscuit and a hint of nuttiness.
