QPR - Quality to Price Ratio - is an important factor when you are buying wine. Whether it is $9.00 or $59.00 you want to feel your wine is worth the spend. I post my suggestions on my blog and on Twitter. As well I talk about my Cellar Treasures and review Wine Books.
Reviews
Mar Da Palha 2009, Vinho Regional Lisboa
Portugal$17.95
The wine is a deep blackish purple. An intense nose of prune and baked raisin with a hint of earthiness. The mouth-feel is big and round with sweet prune and dark chocolate. There is a slight bitterness to the finish but I assume that may be alcohol as I felt some heat. Although not to my everyday taste, I think this will be a crowd pleaser
Wits End Luna Shiraz 2011, Mclaren Vale
South Australia, Australia$18.95
Surprisingly structured for the price point. Blackberry, dark plum & spice on the nose. Full bodied, juicy dark fruits with a lean minerality or salinity that gives the wine an interesting complexity.
Ulisse Unico Pecorino 2010, Igt Terre Di Chieti
Abruzzo, Italy$17.95
Well integrated wine with notes of apple, grapefruit, lime and a hint of vanilla. Each time I tried it, I liked it more.
The Good Earth Pinot Noir 2009, Niagara
Ontario, Canada$25.00
Nose of ripe cherry and strawberry, with a slight hint of minerality. Beautifully integrated wine.
Flat Rock Pinot Noir 2010, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Flint, red cherries and slight earthiness on the nose. Lovely evolving layers of fruit on the finish.
Vintage Ink Mark Of Passion Merlot/Cabernet 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$17.95
Spicy, black cherry, blackberry. Palate follows through but with hint of mocha and chocolate.
Kunde Zinfandel 2007, Sonoma County
California, Usa$21.95
Classic Zin & one of the few wines I have had that matched the description on the back: Boysenberry, cloves, anise, black pepper - good acid blance. Great price!
Mission Hill Chardonnay Reserve 2009, VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$21.95
Tropical fruit and butterscotch on the nose. Richness balanced beautifully by citric finish.
Charles Baur Crémant D'alsace, Ac, Alsace, France
Alsace, France$18.95
Green apple and slight biscuit nose translates on palate. Creamy mouthfeel with lovely lemon finish.
Villa Sandi Prosecco, Doc Treviso
Veneto, Italy$14.45
Youthful and appealing lime blossom, stone fruit and green apple nose. Palate follows through with pear, green apple, honeydew melon and lime. Nice creamy mousse. Pleasing for the price.
