Really good example of what the Southern Rhone can do at a solid price. Quite intense nose of black fruit liqueur along with loads of smokey, gamey, leathery notes along with a bit of sweet vanilla. On the palate, it was full bodied with medium+ acidity and tannins with similar flavours replaying, though there was more cassis, cola, vanilla, and clove notes shining through on the long finish. Tasted this with 8 others blind at a Grenache tasting, including 3 Chateauneufs, and found this to be one of the best quality. Will be grabbing a few for my own personal enjoyment! Very solid CdR, immediately identifiable as a south Rhone character. Black pepper, meaty notes, dark fruit, with a solid structure and balancing acidity. Everything one could want in a decently priced red. Tasted Sep 2014.
