Jackson Triggs Proprietors’ Reserve Meritage 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula

This blend of cabernet and merlot shows the ripeness of the 2007 vintage but it loses focus somewhat in mid-palate....

Decanted 30 minutes prior to serving the nose was mellow and slightly jammy.. Medium-bodied with flavors of cherry and smoke, decent structure to the tannins and played will with our NY Strip steaks. Though this is one of my favorite wines, this 2007 isn't as special-tasting as previous releases. Still yummy though. Tasted 07-Sep-2010

This JT is light to medium bodied with fruity aromas of black currant. Tannins are refined and the finish is medium. I suggest decanting time to be between 30 min to 1 hr for the acidity to mellow down. My impression: NOTHING SPECIAL. Tasted Apr/10.

This is a tasting of the 08. In 08 JT switched their label series, the Meritage is now under the Black Label, same price, screw cap, VQA NP.
Niagara style cabmerlot on the nose, green bell pepper, smoky meat, and coffee grinds in the compost. Juicy red cranberry up front with that peppery coffee and celery in the middle through to finish. Medium tannins with abundant acid.
Very typical of Niagara reds, expressive of clay-loam soils. I find it to be worth the price, and if you like Niagara style it is quite enjoyable.
Pepperoni sticks, dry ribs, nacho cheese Doritos.
