Here's a fine example of solid 2009 Bordeaux from a generic (Médoc) appellation, which punches above its weight...
A perfectly delectable Medoc without terrific complexity but with good substance and distinctive character. The...

Delicious, intense, complex savory flavours and almost some citrus rinds (?) in the fruit tones - quality here is way outside of its weight class. Bought a case. Decant 20 mins and it will make you a believer in what 2009 is delivering in Bordeaux.
Fresh nose of dense stewed fruit, leather, some wood. Alcohol evident. Full bodied with good concentration of ripe fruit, dried herbs and some alcoholic heat. On the rustic side but fruit, acidity and tannin in good balance. The alcohol is perhaps a touch higher than I'd like @ 14%, but that's me nitpicking; Everything is place for this to continue to improve over 5 years and will likely hold for a further 5. This is a very good Bordeaux for the price.

Great nose! But fruit is a little shy on the palate. Structured with nice tannins. I'm guessing this one needs more bottle age to develop its flavours.

A very solid left banker, with plenty of ripe fruit, hints of cedar and vanilla. Really nice balance here, just lacking a bit of the depth and complexity of the classified growths, but fine for the money. Quite finely structured, my sense is that this wine (though drinkable now) would benefit from another year of two in bottle. Highly enjoyable. tasted March 2014.
Matured nicely with probably not much more upward evolution possible. Very juicy as the acids are still holding on nicely with good fruit and soft tannins remaining. mid weight and a medium long finish.
