This is a blend of Malbec, Cab. Sauvignon, Tannat, and Syrah.
Spearmint leaf on the nose followed by cherry and plums. As it rolls around in your mouth, expect a sweet smoothness to prevail with a mix of red and black fruit plus just a touch of black pepper on the finish. Substantial ‘Wow Factor’. Tasted March 2011 / again Feb 2012

The name Amalaya, or “hope for a miracle”, is rooted in the desire of the native Calchaqui Indians to keep the gods of nature content. - with the Hess Family behind this venture you know it's something special.

Surprisingly nice wine.
The 2008 Colomé Amalaya is FRUITY to integrated, medium bodied wine with nice aromas of red currant, caramel and coffee. It has refined tannins (decant for 30 min) and a tangy, medium to long finish. It can be drunk now, but would benefit from aging for few years (2014-2018) if and only if it wasn’t for the FAKE cork enclosure used, completely eliminating the wine's aging potential!!!! My impression: NICE, 89 pts and a recommended buy especially at this price as it was originally sold for $18.95 – nearly $3 more. Tasted Aug/11.
