Quinta Do Valdoeiro Baga, Cabernet Sauvignon & Syrah 2011
Bairrada, Portugal$15.00
Very good depth and complexity. Very fine value indeed. Portugal has become my #1 go-to region for great values.
Lua Cheia Em Vinhas Velhas 2013, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$14.95
Solid value from Portugal yet again.
Domaine Lafage Côté Est 2013, Igp Côtes Catalanes
Languedoc, France$14.95
Decent, if unexciting white from south of France. Crisp, refreshing patio wine but I found it a tad tiresome after a while.
La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2012
Rhône, France$22.95
Solid CdR here, with herbs infused red fruits and good balance. The veil of sweet oak seems a bit out of place. I don't get the sense that the structure of the wine supports ageing for any period of time - but nice for current consumption. Tasted March 2016.
Vale Do Bomfim 2013, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$12.75
Not much for me to add to the notes already posted here. A very solid, authentic Portuguese red, and a very good value indeed. Fine intro to the dry red wines coming from the Douro for those who have not discovered these gems. tasted Feb 2016.
M. Chapoutier Belleruche Côtes Du Rhône 2013
Rhône, France$16.95
Very solid CdR here. Really love the authentic south Rhone character, with plenty of pepper, spice and hints of black olives to go along with the bright red fruit. Just the tannin level to give the wine some oooomph. Really delicious and great wine to buy in multiple bottle purchase. Tasted Sept 2015.
Old Vines In Young Hands White 2013, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$12.95
A light, crisp Douro white here, nothing fancy, but very well made. Dry, floral and refreshing citrusy fruit. A perfect patio sipper for the recent hot weather. Stellar value, Tasted May 2016.
Trapiche Malbec Reserve 2014
Mendoza, Argentina$12.95
Leaner and drier than the 2012 vintage. Decent red fruit, some herbal notes and an average finish. A bit lacking in depth and character, but hey, it's 12 bucks. Reasonable value. Tasted July 2016.
Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 2012
Tuscany, Italy$22.45
Decent enough Chianti Rufina here, with some red/tart chrry fruit and crisp acidity, But overall, it fails to excite. A bit light on flavour and dull, really. Tasted July 2016.
