Norman Hardie County Chardonnay Unfiltered 2010, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$35.00
A nice oaked Chardonnay, this has great buttery, toasty notes on the nose. Good acid, a lingering finish and a great hit of fresh citrus on the palate.
Groth Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Oakville, Napa Valley
California, Usa$74.95
Fruity and fresh with black cherry, plum, pepper, spice and strawberry on the nose. Chewy/grippy tannins and balanced acidity, with lots of pepper, spice and red fruit on the palate.
Casa Lapostolle Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay 2011, Atalayas Vineyard, Casablanca Valley
Casablanca Valley, Chile$24.95
Named after the creator of Grand Marnier, Cuvee Alexander is a lovely gold colour and has lots of oak, with buttered popcorn, honey and creamed corn on the nose, as well as tropical fruit and pear. I’m not a huge fan of oaky Chardonnay, but I liked this. There was tropical fruit on the palate and a good, round mouth feel.
Zanna Riserva Montepulciano D'abruzzo Colline Teramane 2007, Docg
Abruzzo, Italy$34.95
This has licorice, smoke, tar, dark fruit and leather on the nose. With heavy, gripping tannins, good acid and ripe fruit and spice on the palate this is a nice, big Italian red.
Flat Rock Riesling 2012, VQA Twenty Mile Bench
Ontario, Canada$16.95
The nose on this wine hit me with so much peach-filled goodness and it did not disappoint on the palate. A fresh, fruity and delicious Riesling. I look forward to enjoying it again soon.
Lighthall Progression Sparkling Vidal 2012
Ontario, Canada$20.00
Progression has become one of my favourite sparkling wines. It’s a great, light sparkler with green apple and a hint of peach and pear on the nose. This is a dry wine that’s perfect for brunch or to kickstart your palate before a meal.
Keint He Chardonnay 2009
Ontario, Canada$19.80
With vanilla, white peach, honey, green and yellow apple and citrus on the nose, this is a medium-bodied sipper that paired perfectly with my gourmet grilled cheese featuring chevre, maple walnut praline and sliced green apples from The Agrarian restaurant in Prince Edward County.
Flor De Vetus Verdejo 2012, Do Rueda
Rueda, Spain$15.95
Citrus fruit, green apple, mango, tropical fruit and green grass with a hint of spice make up the fairly complex nose on this wine. This had a nice finish with green apple on the palate. Great for summer.
Jean Paul Brun Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay 2010
Beaujolais, France$23.65
Lots of oak notes on the nose with butter and caramel - these are nicely balanced with apple and pear notes. The palate surprised me as the acidity was quite crisp and there was a lot of fruit flavour. Tasty and interesting.
Urban Riesling 2008, Mosel
Mosel, Germany$12.15
With apples, citrus, lychee and petrol on the nose, this is a nicely balanced wine that was fresh and fruity.
