Urban Riesling 2008, Mosel
Mosel, Germany$12.15
With apples, citrus, lychee and petrol on the nose, this is a nicely balanced wine that was fresh and fruity.
Estate Hatzimichalis Chardonnay 2011, Atalanti Valley
Greece$10.00
With vanilla toast and honeyed peach, this wine has a nose ripe with buttery and creamy notes that follow through on a well-balanced palate. Quite yummy.
Featherstone Rosé 2012, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$14.95
I love the nose on this wine - full of strawberry and raspberry notes with a hint of citrus. On the palate it's a nice mix of sweet and slightly spicy. I had this the first time on the patio at the winery on a beautiful summer day and enjoyed it just as month on a summer evening at home a few weeks later. Delicious.
Château Des Charmes Cuvée D'andrée Rosé 2012, Niagara On The Lake
Ontario, Canada$14.95
I have been calling this wine my pick for the summer - it's got a nice hint of sweetness while still being dry and it's much fruitier on the palate than I expected with strawberry, raspberry and a touch of peppery spice. I love the nose, which has citrus, red berries, candy apple and spicy cherry. There isn't a lot available apparently, so grab it while you can - it won't disappoint.
Brumont Gros Manseng Sauvignon 2012, Cote De Gascogne
Southwest, France$10.75
There’s lots of green apple, pear and luscious citrus fruit on this fairly intense nose. The fruit and acid balance nicely on the palate making this wine a fresh and lively summer sipper.
Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Hawke's Bay
Hawke's Bay, New Zealand$19.95
Cherry, currant, black pepper, licorice and dark fruit on the nose. Balanced acid and baked fruit on the palate with a spicy finish. Medium tannin.
Freixenet Carta Nevada Cava, Do Cava
Spain$15.10
Fresh and fruity on the palate with a nice finish, this wine has a nose filled with green apple, citrus and a hint of peach. Good-sized bubbles and a reasonable choice for an aperitif.
Day Trippers Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Australia$9.95
Spicy citrus on the nose and a light, fresh palate. A dry wine with good balance and nice acidity. If I could give bonus points for an adorable label, I'd consider it in this case.
Rosehall Run Cuvée County Pinot Noir 2010, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$22.95
Stewed fruit, cherry, violets and spice all come alive on the nose of this great barrel-aged Pinot. Nice, chewy tannins, great dark fruit flavours and wonderful heat on the palate make for a fantastic wine.
Casa Lapostolle Gran Seleccion Carmenere 2011, Rapel Valley
Chile$16.05
I haven’t had a lot of experience with this grape, but this was pretty good in my opinion. I liked the cherry vanilla, chocolate and coffee on the nose and the more savoury notes of white pepper as this opened up. The tannins seemed light to me and it’s got a nice warmth on the palate. Tasty!
