Casa Lapostolle Gran Seleccion Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Rapel Valley
Chile$12.00
With green apple, citrus, peach and flint on the nose, good acid, a bit of bite and less fruit on the palate than on the nose, this was definitely different than a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I liked the minerality and found this one to be a refreshing, subtle sipper.
Cottage Block Sauvignon Blanc Riesling 2012, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$11.95
Very pale straw, almost water, in colour, this wine has a nose of green apple, green grass and grapefruit with a hint of stony minerality. It’s crisp on the palate and follows through on the nose, but this one just wasn’t to my tastes.
The Beachouse Sparkling, Western Cape
South Africa$10.00
This struck me as very sweet on first taste, although the sweetness became more subtle with a few sips. The nose held lemon and tropical fruit with some green apple. This was too sweet for my tastes, but it might be nice with dessert or in a cocktail.
