Giesen Riesling 2012, Marlborough
Marlborough, New Zealand$7.45
I believe we had the 2011. Nice wine, kind of a petrol smell but tasted nice, slightly off-dry. A bit of a German-minerally taste. Good with the turkey dinner at Christmas.
Delaforce Touriga Nacional 2011
Douro, Portugal$17.75
Deep dark colour, a powerful wine. Coming together nicely now (April 2016) but this should do well for several years easily. Pair with a grilled steak or lamb.
Cantine Sant' Isidoro Pausula 2012, Doc Colli Maceratesi
Marche, Italy$9.75
Acceptable but not memorable. Decent acidity - try with seafood.
M. Chapoutier Rasteau 2012
Rhône, France$19.95
Needs some time to take the edge off, will try again in 2015.
Thelema Mountain Red 2011, Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch, South Africa$13.00
Decent but not outstanding in any way. Not much going on for me. Reasonable value.
Clos Du Val Zinfandel 2012, Napa Valley
California, Usa$31.95
Bought this based on previous vintages and was a bit disappointed. Decent but a bit expensive for what you get.
Pessoa Da Vinha Reserva Douro 2010
Douro, Portugal$12.45
Agreed this is a nice, well-rounded Douro for a good price. Recommended.
Santa Rita Medalla Real Carmenere Gran Reserva 2009, Colchagua Valley
Colchagua Valley, Chile$17.95
Very appealing. Aromas of caramel and black fruit. Tastes of black cherries, smoke, and likely other delights. 90-91
Santa Rita Medalla Real Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Maipo Valley
Maipo Valley, Chile$17.95
Started out nicely but I found this a bit hot which numbed the finish for me. Not a repeat buy.
Figuero Tinto 4 Tempranillo 2012
Ribera Del Duero, Spain$9.90
Substantial red here, dark and fruity with reasonable oak. This needs a decant for sediment removal and some time to open up. Also needs a "big" dish to pair with. Great buy for $9.90 on the bin end sale, I bought 6 more. 88 plus another point for the value!
