Ravenswood Vintners Blend Zinfandel 2015
California, Usa$17.95
This is a great affordable zinfandel. Sometimes you just want to relax with a delicious easy drinking wine, this vintners blend fits the bill perfectly. For the money one the best bbq and burger wines on the market. After having tasted a few hundred wines up to now, this has become a staple in my cellar, as a crowd pleasing zin for both the winter and summer months. drink 2017-2019
Vila Regia 2015
Douro, Portugal$8.95
Great little wine form Portugal's Douro Valley, famous for its Port production. This wine exerts qualities usually found above 20$. Its highly aromatic with notes of berries and ripe fruits. Very smooth and easy drinking with well integrated acidity and tannins. Great with pizza or roast meats.
Domaine De Lavoie 2015
Quebec, Canada$15.95
Decent red wine grown on the Mont Rougemont in south eastern Quebec. Made with a blend of hybrid varieties. Oak vanillin is presen on the palate as are flavors of berry and red fruits. Similar to the cote du rougement wine but not as tasty. Still competitive some work left to get this wine to compete with similarly priced french and spanish wines. Definitely good to support Canadian wineries, try with red meats, pizza, salami and cheese.
Bernard Massard Cuvée De L'écusson Brut Sparkling, Traditional Method
Luxembourg, World$17.75
Recently tasted this sparkler twice. Surprised Decanter gave this wine 96 points, an outlandish score for a wine lacking depth, length, and complexity for such a score. Enjoyable although a bit cloying, the dosage is not shy. Drink now.
Meia Encosta Red 2013, Dao
Portugal$10.70
Review is for the 2015 vintage: Good red from Portugal's Dao appellation region. Made primarily touriga nacional and a blend of other native grapes, this wine is an affordable quaffable red for everyday drinking pairs well with pizza, roast meets, and mild cheese. Also available in a 3litre box great for summer sipping and parties.
Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Sonoma County
California, Usa$23.45
reviewing 2014 vintage: Decent cabernet sauvignon typical Californian style. Immediately you notice the oak and dense fruit, dry finish medium ok length. Needs a bit of time in the cellar, to be honest for the price will not buy again. Or would have to wait 5 years to drink again.
Côteau Rougemont Versant Rouge 2015
Quebec, Canada$14.30
Good red from south Eastern Québec, fruit forward with spicy tonalities. Good with pizza, red meats, and or cheese. Great value for money available in grocery stores all over Quebec.
Santi Nello Pinot Nero 2013
Veneto, Italy$10.65
Rated 2016 vintage: Ok pinot noir for the price, simple with a short finish. Good for cooking and parties. Easy drinking with sour acidity on the finish not the most pleasant but not flawed. drink now
Cálem Fine White Port, Doc Douro
Portugal$13.95
Decent white port made from a variety of unknown white grapes native to the Douro Valley. The wine is moderately complex and has notes of dried fruit and spices such as nutmeg, as well as honey. Good for port cocktails with tonic water, does the job. Chill and drink on itself as an apéritif, or in a cocktail.
Domaine De Fourn Blanquette De Limoux
Languedoc, France$17.05
Review is for the 2013 vintage: Great blanquette made of 90% Mauzac, a grape utilized almost exclusively in the limoux appellation. Both the aroma and the pallet let through the notes of green apples and citrus. This sparkling wine is simple but highly satisfying, lots of bubbles and fairly light in alcohol barely 12%, great for summer sipping or can even be paired with burgers try it for yourself. Definitely recommended.
