Santa Julia Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Mendoza, Argentina$9.95
Underrated Cab from the Uco Valley, one of Argentina's foremost wine growing regions. Great aroma of dark fruit and herbs, on the palate the wine is full bodied and balanced with a real delicacy to it. Extremely good value will buy a few more in the future. Beats many Californian cabs twice the price.
Paul Mas Réserve Origines Grenache De Grenache 2016
Languedoc, France$11.55
A great little white wine from the languedoc. Paul was is an expert at producing high quality super affordable wines. At 11$ and change its unbeatable, i've tasted quite a few sub 15$ whites this is one of the best. Fairly complex with notes of white peach, ripe apples, and spice. Great texture and with a good length of finish. A reference in affordable whites.
E. Guigal Crozes Hermitage 2013, Ac
Rhône, France$28.85
Although my expectations weren't that high for this affordable Crozes, I was not disappointed. The wine was most likely in a dumb phase for the last year or so explaining the mediocre reviews. It is currently excellent! The wine is quite complex with aromas of black pepper dried herbs, dark fruit and smoked meat. The finish is long and smooth, this is not a powerhouse of a wine, its an elegant northern rhone Syrah with a beautiful nose. Can improve with further aging 2-4 years. Pair with roasted poultry, red meats, and awesome with hamburgers.
Beronia Elaboracion Especial Tempranillo 2014
Rioja, Spain$16.95
Great wine for the price, tastes of red fruit, spices and vanillin. Great with food with great balance recommended. Decent length.
Château Du Grand Caumont Cuvée Tradition Corbières 2014
Languedoc, France$13.95
Good Corbière for under 13$ a great deal. On the nose notes of garigue, herbs, leather, and ripe black fruits are present. The palate is decently complex with an average length of finish. Over all an easy drinking red, great for bbq and burgers. Drink 2017-2020
Santo Santorini Assyrtiko 2016
Santorini, Greece$23.35
This is an excellent Assyrtiko, although it won't satisfy the purists. It's high acid with a mineral driven palate, with notes of lemon and green sour apple. For 15$ and change this wine deserves 90 points, if somebody asked me for an affordable white that punches far above its weight this wine would be my answer. Could improve with midterm cellaring 2-5 years possibly.
The Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier 2015, Western Cape
Western Cape, South Africa$14.95
2016 vintage:nice red wine from south Africa's western cape, a take on a southern Rhone blend. Notes of spice, deep red fruit mixed with smoke and wood are apparent both in aroma and on the palate. Highly recommendable for the price. A year or 2 of additional bottle age would help elevate this wine further. Great introductory wine to South Africa's potential for delicious and complex vino. Good with red meats and hamburgers.
M. Chapoutier Les Vignes De Bila Haut Côtes Du Roussillon Villages 2016, Ac
Languedoc, France$15.95
Good wine but not great this 2016 vintage is a disappointment in comparison to the amazing 2015. Drink soon won't cellar long.
S. De La Sablette Rosé 2015, Côtes De Provence
Provence, France$17.10
Decent rosé, nice and dry with average length of taste. Good for apéritif and sea food. Nothing special but good for the price and 500 inspire bonus points.
