A generously ripe, red but mostly dark fruit-scented version of Sangiovese from the Tuscan coast, plush, succulent...
This is a mid-weight fairly fresh and juicy red with lifted aromas of blackcurrant, thyme, spice and cedary/shrubby...

Hints of cherries and plums from the cork. In the glass, it has complex and inviting medium+ intensity aromas of dark cherry, earth, dried herbs and hints of meatiness. The palate is medium+ bodied and quite juicy with fresh acids with supple tannins. Evident oak aging is nicely integrated, with flavours of earth and hints of vanilla accenting the dark-fruited flavours. Becomes more earthy, savoury with air. Very good length on the earthy finish. Enjoy over the next 3-4 years. Tasted Apr/2016.

The Sangiovese wines from Scansano tend to be riper than those of the more famous Chianti regions. And that is the case here. Ripe black cherry fruit, full and almost lush, along with hints of vanilla and black tea. Very approachable and inviting with a lingering finish. Very easy to like and a very good value at a discounted $18. Tasted Sept 2016,
Very typical of the region and the grape (100% Sangiovese), this has initial aromas of sour cherry and leather leading to rich, luscious blackberry and complex Italian savouriness characterized by notes of olive, tomato leaf, herbs, and roasted red pepper, with significant cherry and pomegranate tartness on the palate. With time, the nose retains a decent balance of the fruity and the savoury, but things really thin out on the palate, with barely any fruit to speak of and bitter herbs, largely flavourless, filling the vacuum. Given the initial appeal, a significant disappointment.
