Rustenberg Merlot 2010, Wo Stellenbosch

This scores big on depth and complexity. The Bordeaux variety reds of Stellenbosch often taste like Bordeaux...
A fine and savoury, elegant and spicy merlot here from Rustenberg, with fine depth and length, and very good...

I thought this was an excellent wine. Presenting the kind of value you look for when buying a South African wine, this was big and complex. This tasted like a bordeaux with really nice tobacco, leather, sage and cedar notes. The wine opened up over time and presented a very long finish.
Had it my cellar for 5 years, finally decided to crack them open. Very nice wine, excellent length and finish.
I wish I had bought a couple of more

A very nice merlot from Stellenbosch. Still fairly youthful ruby colour. The nose offers dark fruit, herbal notes, anise. The palate is medium full, with medium acidity and medium plus tannins that are still quite dusty. The length is excellent. A touch hot (14% ABV). Oak is well integrated with chocolate notes playing a support role. Ready to go now (could use a short decant) but will hold mid term. June 2015.
