Volpaia Chianti Classico 2021, Docg

Of all the 2021s to taste and assess there is no shock that Volpaia’s is just about as young and immovable as any....

That is a proper Chianti, that is.
2021 was a solid vintage, and Volpaia know their stuff. The little bit of Merlot in there softens the tannins nicely. If you are drinking it now, give it a good decant. Me? I would probably cellar it for another year or two, if you can wait.
Finding good Italian wine where I am can be a real pain. So I usually order a few bottles from McGrocer when I am stocking up on pasta and olive oil. Their delivery has never let me down.
Thanks for the note. Might grab a case myself. Cheers.
Mainly Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot, this has a lovely, medium to medium-high intensity nose of red cherry, floral, rose petal, sweet baking spice, and cinnamon aromas. The medium+ bodied palate is dry and a touch spicy with lovely aroma replays that echo on the flavour profile. It has very good, juicy acidity, alongside smooth, well-structured tannins. Lovely sweet spice and red cherry notes linger on the long, well-balanced finish. Tasted Nov. 2024.
