Lamadrid Single Vineyard Malbec 2012, Agrelo, Mendoza
Mendoza, Argentina$17.00
Decanted for 1h before drinking.
Poured deep ruby/crimson at the core, fading away to a light pink rim. Little bit of welcome sedimentation in the glass.
Smells of black berries, currant, chocolate, and a bit of graphite. High alcohol, but in great balance. More acid than I expected from a 100% Malbec, which makes this able to stand up to stronger foods or cheeses. Excellent to fantastic length. 93 points, amazing value, I will be buying more.
Popov Versnik Merlot 2011, Tikves
Macedonia, Greece$13.95
Opened this one at a birthday party, was unpaired with any substantial food, but enjoyed it with some cheese and vegetables.
Very easy drinking with good aroma and length for this price. Would buy again.
Château Bel Air 2011, Cru Bourgeois, Ac Haut Médoc
Bordeaux, France$27.95
Decanted 1hr before drinking. A decent amount of sediment in the decanter that translated into the glass.
Absolutely classic left bank; Deep ruby in colour with some lighter reds at the edge. The nose is soft, starts with black fruit and a lot of plum, and then finishes with some gamey meat.
Lower acidity than I was expecting, with a very smooth finish. This is a great bottle and I would love to keep a few more for 2-5 years to see how it turns out.
Dominio Del Viento Crianza 2011, Doca Rioja
Rioja, Spain$12.75
This is classic Tempranillo, with a big amount of smoke flavour and grip on the tannin. Sour cherry fruit is the predominant smell. Drink up now.
