Montes Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Colchagua Valley
Chile$12.95
Herbal minty cinnamon nose, cocoa midpalate on stand-up tannins with balanced acidity. Oaky undertones without the cloying character often found with New World oak barreling in this price range. Has just the right spice to make a very good accompaniment to grilled ribeye.
Ringbolt Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Margaret River
Western Australia, Australia$21.95
Slightly hot, dried herb nose with a few strands of tobacco, with cedar pleasantly on the tongue and sourness on the length, yet a nice chalky mineral finish reminiscent of the west bank. Did I mention complex,? Nice job.
Root: 1 Carmenère 2012
Colchagua Valley, Chile$12.95
Great value. Dried herbs on the nose and on the palate with lots of nice fruit and a chalky, satiny finish. Very pleasant, not at all sweet.
Honoro Vera Garnacha 2013
Aragón, Spain$15.95
Light, bright, red cherry and fresh unsweetened fruit palate. A refreshing aperitif with a slight chill.
Fairview Estates The Goatfather 2012
Western Cape, South Africa$14.95
Smokey-oaky. Smoaky! nose, with charred lemon and with a promise of the fruit forward palate, which ends with dusty tannins and more charred citrus. Very good for a pig roast (well, that was my experience.)
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Marlborough, South Island
Marlborough, New Zealand$19.95
Puckering tropical mineral citrus palate, mineral grass topnotes, I think I understand why it's so popular. It's got everything you'd expect from this grape, wrapped in a southern hemisphere package. You can't go wrong bringing this bottle to a summer get-together.
Borsao Garnacha Selección 2015, Campo De Borja
Spain$12.15
Smoky, fruity, medicinal, camphor and cloves.
Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir 2015, Central Valley
Chile$11.95
Great value. Nice green backdrop to a surprisingly complex wine for the price .
Sister's Run Bethlehem Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Barossa Valley, South Australia
South Australia, Australia$19.95
Smooth, bright, delicious. Green, gravelly and ripe nose; it's all delivered, and more, on the palate. Good value.
Majella The Musician Cabernet/Shiraz 2013, Coonawarra
South Australia, Australia$17.95
Berries and herbs with a surprising jolt of acidity at the end. Perfect for a rare rib roast with rosemary and garlic, goal I would keep looking if what you're wanting is a sipping wine.
