Tessari Grisela Soave Classico 2018, Veneto
Veneto, Italy$22.74
Lanolin, slight honeycomb, honeydew melon and mineral notes on the nose. Glycerin-like mouthfeel with honeydew followed by white grapefruit and some effervescence. Long finish with white grapefruit and herbaceous notes.
Luis Seabra Xisto Ilimitado White 2018
Douro, Portugal$31.78
Herbaceous nose with slate, white grapefruit and lanolin. Slight melon and white grapefruit on the palate balanced by saltiness, good acidity and slight effervescence. Medium-long finish with slight melon and banana peel.
Azores Wine Company Rosé Vulcanico 2019, Azores
Portugal$27.26
Translucent brink orange colour indicative of oxidation (definitely not pinkish as pictured on the WineAlign site). Tangerine, slight minerality, honeycomb, and slight banana peel on the nose. Lacking fruit on the palate to balance the acidity, saltiness and mineral notes. Slight effervescence to start a long, dry finish with slight strawberry then salty notes. Hard not to think this this was dumped on mixed-case subscribers because it was past its prime. Do better for $27, WineAlign. 80 points.
Silvio Carta Serenata Cannonau Di Sardegna Doc 2019, Sardinia
Sardinia, Italy$36.36
Ripe raspberry and red cherry, with notes of wet earth and leather on the nose. Slight effervescence with strawberry predominating on the palate balanced by subtle tannins and acidity. Short finish with strawberry jam flavours. An interesting wine. However, it must also be judged by its price and this bottle does not live up to its cost.
NB: WineAlign appears to mask scores below 85, labelling them as "not rated" but this deserves no more than 84 points, factoring in value-for-money.
Famiglia Berta La Berta 2016, Nizza Docg
Piedmont, Italy$37.95
Raspberry, blackberry leather and mineral notes on the nose. Slightly unbalanced with acidity edging out red cherry on the palate. Tangy, medium long finish with some heat, red cherry and leather notes. Would score higher save for the price.
Charles Baker Riesling B Side 2019, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$22.74
Wax, pertrol, green apple and pineapple on the nose. Green apple flavours balanced by lemony acidity. Medium-length finish with green apple and pineapple.
Domaine De La Noblaie Le Temps Des Cerises Chinon 2020, A.O.C. Chinon
Loire, France$27.15
Red and black cherry, floral notes and green pepper on the nose. Thin mouthfeel. Red and black cherries with some acidity and not much more on the palate. Short finish with red cherry and green pepper.
NB: WineAlign appear to mask scores below 85, labelling them as "not rated" but this deserves no more than 84 points, factoring in value-for-money.
Pearce Predhomme Pinot Noir 2019, Willamette Valley
Oregon, Usa$34.04
Raspberry, floral notes, forest floor (wet earth, vegetal notes) on the nose. Acidic but with rounded mouthfeel, red cherry, raspberry and vanilla balanced by subtle tannins. Finish is of medium-length and slightly-drying with red cherry, slight cranberry and vanilla.
