El Ilusionista Rueda Verdejo 2021, D.O.
Rueda, Spain$27.00
Aromas of pineapple, pear and banana with mineral and floral notes on the nose. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with some salinity on the palate. Slightly bitter finish. Really, really enjoyed this wine.
Chateau Les Bugadelles Réserve 2017, La Clape
Languedoc, France$26.95
Unpleasantly over-oaked nose, erring on the side of burnt that dominates over perhaps some blackberry. Astringent body with heavy burnt notes again dominating over fruit. Vanilla and pepper on the finish where finally some blueberry ekes through. WAY overpriced for its structure. 81 points.
Finca Martha Gran Malbec 2018
Mendoza, Argentina$24.35
Leather, tar, herbs and bramble the nose. Subdued flavours of blackberry balanced by moderate tannin and acidity. Long-lasting finish with slight heat, vanilla and leather. So nice to find a malbec that is not a fruit-bomb. Good value for money.
Stephane Aviron Saint Amour Cru Beaujolais 2017, Beaujolais
Beaujolais, France$32.91
Aromas of red currant, raspberry and bramble on the nose. Decent acidity and subtle tannins predominate over strawberry and raspberry flavours. The finish is medium-long with bramble and raspberry notes. Definitely needs food to balance the acidity. Served with smoked turkey.
Francois Et Julien Pinon 2018, Vouvray
Loire, France$32.95
Floral aromas with notes of white grapefruit, lanolin, mineral and slight petrol. Glycerin-like mouthfeel with tropical fruit (pear, banana, pineapple) balanced by acidity. Decently-long finish with herbaceous notes followed by pineapple and banana.
Stephane Aviron Vieilles Vignes Morgon Côte Du Py 2012, Ac
Beaujolais, France$23.95
Bacon, leather, raspberry, juniper, floral and barnyard notes on the nose with raspberry and cranberry flavours balanced by moderate tannin and acidity. Long, dry finish with raspberry and dark chocolate. Outstanding value.
