Oggi Primitivo 2011, Puglia Igt
Puglia, Italy$8.95
Very OK Zin for this price. Went out and purchased another bottle to add to the ol wine fridge
Mezzomondo Negroamaro 2010, Salento, Puglia
Puglia, Italy$8.95
Very nice for the price! Enjoyed it with a microwaved lasagna in a box meal.
Looking forward to trying some more wine from Puglia
Lomas Del Valle Pinot Noir 2012, Casablanca Valley
Casablanca Valley, Chile$11.97
Not my idea of a Pinot Noir, Way far too sweet. Destemmed and more than half the grapes went through carbonic maceration.
DAY TWO
Some of that sweetness ( or what ever it is ) has blown off, but this wine needs to be drunk at the dinner table, none of that enjoyable pinot swirling and sniffing to be had here.
Part of the problem is the winemaker for this was Cédric Nicolle and he grew up in the Loire Valley.
Big House Red 2012
California, Usa$13.00
Went to bring up a Saint-Julien Cru classe en 1855 from my wine cellar and thought that the chateau on this label was the Ducru-Beaucaillou and wasn't about to go back down and replace it.
Very nice dark berry nose on this. Enjoyed it much more than the $10 Puglia IGTs I've been drinking lately.
García Carrión Antaño Crianza 2007, Doca Rioja
Spain$13.95
** 2010 Vintage **
This had that really rustic nose that I couldn't come up with a good term, so I see David Lawrason states "nose of tobacco/cigar", and yes that is just what that Rioja scent I enjoy seems to be just like, thanks Dave.
Enjoyed this very much with - cable59 WSBK Seinfeld (1993) - where Jerry can't remember the name of his date and he observes a splenectomy.
UPDATE to 88.7 - that scent was still present in empty wine glass 20 minutes afterwards - this is now my new house wine!
Mission Hill 5 Vineyards Cabernet Merlot 2011, VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$16.95
Really wanted to like this one but to me it just had a complete lack of anything from mid palate on, nothing on the finish.
Think giving it an score of 88 reminds me of what Neal Rosenthal once wrote, ‘Extravagant praise thrown at wines that appear on the scene without a scintilla of heritage’.
* Second glass * after decanted one hour and watching Iron Chef America -somewhat improved, first glass was with Modern Family.
Gehringer Brothers Ehrenfelser Classic 2012, VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$11.29
I know white wine is only for girls, but it's Christmas dinner so I had it on the table.
Made everyone guess what wine it was, sister and my aunt thought it might be a Sauvignon Blanc - I allowed them to finish eating and then they were told to leave my house.
Grão Vasco 2008
Dão, Portugal$8.25
Nice drinking wine with dinner. At ten dollars I'm not looking for something profound.
Kudos to Manuel Vieira for this at this price and dealing with that '08 growing season.
