Lamberti Pinot Noir Delle Venezie 2010, Veneto Igt
Italy$12.95
This Pinot Nero from the eastern shore of Lake Garda (heart of Bardolino Classico) has light ruby colour with garnet shades.
Nice bouquet with fragrance of plums, red cherries and hints of spices and tobacco notes. Very mild tannin gives impression of dry, savoury and balanced flavour.
Pleasant aftertaste of fruits and toasted hazelnuts. Goes well with grilled salmon, grilled veggies, and cheeses (Comte, Edam or French Chevre)
Tasted October 2012.
Luccarelli Primitivo 2010, Igt Puglia
Puglia, Italy$10.95
Deep ruby red from the northern part of Salento behind the arc Jonico. Lucarelli is produced from old vines, hand picked, and no oak during fermentation and aging.
Fruity with notes of black cherry and prunes, spicy with vanilla scents. Medium to full bodied, smooth with well balanced acidity. Medium tannin, long finish with tar-like notes and some earthiness that came through.
Tasted September 2012.
Fantini Farnese Montepulciano D'abruzzo 2010
Abruzzo, Italy$8.45
A nice deep purple red at a great price. Very juicy, intense and persistent.
Aromas of plum, red cherry and white peach with floral and spice hints. Well balanced, very soft tannin. Pleasant finish with good length. The wine is not fancy, but a perfect everyday companion for a dinner with old friends.
It is medium bodied, so don't chill too much. Tasted August, 2012.
Castillo De Monseran Garnacha 2011
Aragón, Spain$9.95
Always a pleasure to drink this wine composed of 100% Garnacha. Wine's vivid aromas of sun-warmed berries, red plums, and cherries with cedar undertones lead into soft and juicy flavours.
Smooth on palate, a delightfully easy-going with everyday simple meals like sausages, cold meats and salads.
Castillo de Monserran comes from beautiful vineyard of the Cariñena region in north-central Spain; behind this wine is former bullfighter now winemaker Javier Domecq (right move!). Tasted July 2012.
